Honest opinion?

I got this mount back last October from the 06 season. I took it to a taxidermist that charged me $435.00. Most taxidermists in my area charge about $350.00. I took my 07 buck back to the same taxidermist and found out (after I had committed) that his price went up to $485.00. I like the mount, but my cousin says it's just fair and that cheaper taxidermists could do a better job. What do you all think of the mount and should I look around for a different taxidermist?

Beautiful buck, I'm just not sure he used the right form for that buck. The chest looks small and the neck looks longer than normal making the head/skull look bigger. I can't tell if its the camera angles, but that is just what I'm getting from the pictures. Awesome buck though, congrats! If I busted your bubble I'm sorry, just giving you my honest opinion.

Something looks out of wack on that mount to me. it is however a nice deer. as far as price goes expect to pay up to $500.00 for an average mount within the next 5 years. Taxidermy supplies and overhead have sky rocket within the last 4 years.

No bubble busting here. I asked for it straight and I appreciate yours as well as everyones comments.

I must add that the short shoulder was not the fault of the taxidermist. That was my fault. I came up a little short caping it. I needed kicked for that, and this past Christmas when the family came over well.... lets just say they got their legs ready for soccer this spring.

The taxidermist mentioned to me that the cost of supplies had really went up. I wasn't sure if this was a line, but it appears he was truthful.

i agree with the neck not being as full and stout.my guess would be he used the wrong manican( mature doe) to put your cape on!!When you buy them you can get all different one!!Either that or a cheaper manican. My mount for 07 i am being charged 350.And thats been the price for as long as i remeber i've had well this will be my 6th mount.

I don't think you payed to much, though it does look a little off in the neck to me. Besides, if they don't put up the prices, they stop making a living, and you become one of those stories I keep hearing about people trying to get thier capes/rugs/skulls/racks from the agencey liquidating the bankrupt shops assets...

Locally here the price of taxidermy has gone up a bit this year. I paid 350.00 four years ago for my buck and it still looks good. This year I paid 550.00 for my mount from a different taxidermist, but he did a fantastic job with detail I have not had before. My point is you get what you pay for. If you like your taxidermists work, then stay with him. I will continue to pay my new guy what ever he charges. I would of commented on your mount but it's tough to tell details from pictures. He looks like a great buck to me.

RTF is right on with this one, expect prices to go up considerably in the next few years. What many people do not consider is the time, money, supplies, overhead, etc. that go into every mount, Gas Prices are not the only thing going up, and we have to adjust our prices accordingly to stay in business.
