Strut10
Sometimes you just fall in it. I'd been looking for a Remington 591 or 592. They're pretty uncommon rifles and you just don't run across one every day. Put a couple bids on Gun Broker but no good. Then I see in the local trader paper there's one of each to be auctioned. I went. I looked. The 591 was absolutely cherry!! The 592 was 85%-90% on the metal....stock needs a re-finish. I bid. I bought........both of them!! Also got almost 3 boxes of ammo with them (sells for $70-$85/box). Got everything for about 60% of what I'd have paid from a dealer or a website. The 591 is the clip-fed rifle. The 592 is tube-fed. I put the scope and swivels on the 591........they weren't included. Here's a quiz.........(and no looking on Google or a gun sales website).......what caliber are these rifles?? Hangunnr and Snapper are not allowed to say.

Strut10
ok...I DID NOT cheat....no looking it up....but I asked my guy... He says....5mm??? He sez right. 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum They were only made from 1971-74. I believe around 27000 of the 591 and 7000 of the 592. The original loading throws a 38 gr. bullet at around 2200 fps.......which gives it more oomph than either the 22 Mag or the 17 HMR. Unfortunately, like some other nearly forgotten rounds, it was a cartridge ahead of its time. Nifty little guns.

TexasDeerHunter
I have only seen two in my life and that was at a gun shop about 20 years ago.
Tominator
Cool. I was going to guess something bigger than a .22 mag because you can see the brass outline of the round on the tube magazine. Never even heard of the 5 mm round. Is that a tough round to find now?
Texan_Til_I_Die
If anyone finds a source for ammo, please let me know. I have a friend that owns one and he hasn't been able to shoot it for years. Back in the early 80's, that was our weapon of choice for nighttime varmint calling. Sweet shooter with much less report than the small centerfires the rest of us owned.
