Back then mom was still homeschooling us. We finished getting out assignments for the day and were getting started and our mom went to the bank. She came home pretty quick though when she heard, didn't want us to find out without her there incase we were really upset. Had the tv on all day... remember watching the tv and seeing the 2nd plane fly into the building...and them falling....

I'll never forget that day.

I pulled into my office and right when I walked in they had the office TV on watching the 1st tower burning. While watching the TV and listening to for up to date information we saw the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. I couldn't believe my eyes. I couldn't believe my eyes when each tower collapsed. We didn't get anything accomplished (work wise) that day.

I was working in Northern VA. I was staying with a friend and my family was here in Ohio. I was off that day and for several more (rotating shift work) but was not planning to drive the 8 hours home to Ohio. My friend woke me up and said "We're being attacked" Our power was out where he lived too. Still not sure why we were 40 minutes away from DC. My friend had fish tanks and since the power went out he was hooking up the filters to baterries and flipped on the radio and heard.

The power came back on just in time to see the second plane.

I packed my truck up and headed back to Ohio in short order. Being that close and wondering about a biological attack etc I told my friends I hated to leave them but I had to see my family. It was a quick trip home and I came back out to work but I was glad to see my wife and kids.

I do remember how weird it was to not see planes in the sky. Or hear them in the distance...

A sad day for sure...

Same thing with the Alfred P. Murrah building in OKC. We had just left the convention center the day before on a FFA trip. We were all at school in class the next day when it came on the TV and those of us that went on that FFA trip were thankful that we were back because we we parked nearly in front of the building and stuff. I just dont understand how people can do such horrific things to each other. Just makes me want to pray to God for forgiveness and blessing my family and make me understand what is wrong with some people today.

I remember I was getting my cable hooked up at an apartment in MD while I was in the military. That was probably the first image I saw on that tv. The cable guy saw it with me and had no idea. That was crazy as well.

I was at work that morning. We had a small television in the break room and an Administrative Assistant called me in there and said a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center towers. I walked in expecting some sort of light aircraft had hit it. I could tell immediately something bigger had hit it. While we were standing there watching the live feed, the second airliner slammed into the other tower. We stood there in stunned silence for a moment and i just looked at her and said "that was no accident". The rest of the day was spent glued to the TV. Needless to say, not much got done after that. While i was alive when JFK was assassinated, i was too young to remember it. This and the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster will be forever burned into my memory, much like JFK's assassination is for those old enough to remember. :(

I was home on a day off of work with our son (who was just under 7 months old at the time) tuned into the Today Show and sipping my morning coffee. Like others, I heard the announcement of a "small plane" hitting one of the towers and then watched in disbelief and horror as a second plane - clearly a commercial one - hit the other tower. As others have written, it was at that moment overwhelmingly clear that evil was forcing itself upon our country and people.

While most folks became aware of what was happening virtually as it unfolded, my husband was probably one of very few people who didn't know until the following day. He was packed in by the Bitterroot National Forest on an elk hunt. September 11 was the final night of the hunt, and he was due to fly home the following day, September 12. Fortunately, my husband and some other guys (from Pennsylvania) pooled funds and found one of the last rental cars available. I don't believe that I've ever been more happy to see him return home - safely - as I was when he finally made it back to Michigan. . . and into my waiting arms.
