NY911Bowhunter
Re: Turkey hunting with a Bow... You do not have to use a blind. Most people swear by them because it takes a wee bit of edge away from th turkeys - vision. I use one and would not hunt them without it! Broadheads are a personal choice - most recommend expandables, but it makes no matter. A well placed shot from a sharp broadhead will work no matter the design. I highly recommend decoys! Place it or them about 10 yards in front of your blind or set up, FACING you - a gobbler likes to look his opponent or honey in the eye. This will give you an advantage - his focus will be off of you! Get proficient with mouth calls or use a call like the Primos Freak, that straps onto your leg..anything you can use with one hand or less! theres more..... you'll find out here. maddhunter
Re: Turkey hunting with a Bow... Well as far as the blind goes I would use one that is easily set up and not to bulky. I have used the umbrella that straps to the tree(can't remember what brand) and also doubles as a ground blind. It will hide your movements from about chest down, kneeling on one knee, for me anyhow and I'm 6'2''. It is very easy to carry and pops out in seconds. And for the broadheds, I believe a cut on contact head would be more effective, like the G5 Montecs or G5's new expandable, that is a cut on contact mechanical, but thats just my 2 cents!!! billkay
Re: Turkey hunting with a Bow... Grim Reaper has a new broadhead with a 2 inch cut that also has a collar that can be used to keep the blades from expanding past 90 degrees, giving you a complete 2 inch cut. Guest bownut
Re: Turkey hunting with a Bow... I tried it last spring with the bow for the first time and I did use a blind. It was a the Doghouse and it worked well. I placed decoys out at about 14 yards and faced the jake facing me like I heard you are supposed to. A tom came running in all P.O'ed and went right to the rear of the jake dek and started kicking it's azz. Of course it blocked a shot. It was pecking and kicking the jake for about two or three minutes facing me, when the decoy finnally swung sideways, turning the tom sideways. I shot and hit it with a Rockey Mountain Snyper and it died about 10 yards away. So, I am confused which way to put my decoys out this spring? Anyone have any advice? I guess that's why turkey hunting is such a blast!
