Gator
Hmmm, I can only im agine where this will go!!!! If memory serves me right, which it probably doesn't, but aren't hawks protected??? If so, then he should face criminal charges at the least
Guest Finn
He's too good....I could hit balls at a bird all week and never hit it. He will have to pay a fine and should do it quickly and quietly.
muggs
the guy sounds like a moron- I would have probably tried to do something like this when I was 13 years old...but to be a grown man who's a PGA tour player filming a TV show. Sounds like a huge DB.
texastrophies
This is no different than the marine and the puppy. He should probably be hung, then shot, then tarred and feathered and loose his job. Maybe he can talk the golf courses into replacing the numbers on the flags of each hole with the picture of a bird. :D:D In all seriousness, not a smart move by him. He should pay his penalty, learn from it and move on.

Sounds like a huge DB. Yep, my thoughts exactly. When my oldest son was about 5 years old, I took him with me to a local driving range to hit some balls. There were some three 13-15 year old boys there as well, about 15 yards away from us. A baby rabbit kept coming out of the bushes and running across the tee block, everyone was laughing and having fun seeing it. Of course my son wanted to get a better look. When he got over there, one of the teen aged boys threw a golf ball at the rabbit and caught it square in the head, knocked it silly and then he stepped on it. By the time I realized what was happening, it was too late. The rabbit was dead and my son was almost in tears. The boys left after I laid into them about what they just did. Tripp Isenhour sounds like a 13 year old kid trapped in a 39 year olds body....

MCH
I can already see the Leno and Conan shows: I know a birdie is -1 and an eagle is -2.....but how in the heck do you score a hawk??? How'd you do on the course today? Oh, I got 2 bogey's, 4 birdies and a hawk.

How'd you do on the course today? Oh, I got 2 bogey's, 4 birdies and a hawk. My Dad has this golf story he tells all the time and thinks it's hillarious. I guess back in the 70's he was playing with some buddies from his work. They were all standing around the green waiting for one of them to putt when a bird landed on one of their shoulders. The guy sorta freaked out, and was able to knock the bird off and it nearly landed in the hole. It's at this point of the story my Dad says, "Mike almost got a birdie on that hole!" It's also at that point of the story that the rest of the family rolls their eyes, things get quiet, and my Dad lets out a nervous chuckle and says "don't ya get it? Almost got a birdie..." Someone will usual let him know we all "got it" the first time we heard it fifteen years ago, and it wasn't funny then either.:D The old man is always good for corny stories. Rhino
He will have to pay a fine and should do it quickly and quietly. Too late for the quietly part Finn. I saw a link to another story about it on the msn home page and read about it yesterday. The guy was an idiot for doing it. Now not only is he going to have to pay a fine but he's also going to have to catch a lot of flack, grief, and probably some sort of penalty from the PGA. I'm really surprised someone that was there at the time, including the TV people didn't speak up to object to him trying to hit the hawk before it ever happened. Time will tell but it wouldn't surprise me to see PETA go after them too.

aksheephuntress
Come on John. You think I'd tell him about what happened between me and a male gym teacher???:D ...Huh???! ....Yeah, this PGA golfer definitely sounds immature. I love hawks and falcons. To me, they are sacred.....(besides the fact that this was an illegal act). This guy should definitely be fined, and perhaps be required to serve a hefty amount of communty service. ...These "boys" doing childish, cruel acts...then later putting the big whine on,trying to rationalize and make excuses for their behavior....and thinking a whole bunch of "sorrys" will get them off the hook! ...Geez! Yep, a big lesson learned for him, hopefully. -Thanks for posting the story, though.
Tominator
My wife told me about that this morning. She said "OMG, what do you think about that?" At the time, I didn't know he was trying to hit it intentionally, so I said "That was probably an incredibly lucky shot..." Unbelievable he tried on purpose. How about sending someone down range to scare the bird away, then start shooting again? Mow-ron! I saw my dad miss a blackbird by about 2" once. Accidentally, that is. PAhunter14
Make an exapmle out of him. If i remember right the story said max. punishment was 14 mo. $1500 then so-be-it thats what he should be punished with. Look at Micheal Vicks case they buried him as much as possible, and i bet you wont see any more football players involved in dog fighting. This is exactly what the sport of gold needed "pro golfer kills innocent bird" what an idiot. If it were me if id give him the max sentance. stevebeilgard
don't worry. hawks and falcons are protected species. the feds will be all over him. he'll pay, and pay some more.
Guest Finn
I just saw the interview with Tripp Isenhour about the incident...they were filming some deal, and this hawk was sitting in a tree, squawking away. The guy hit's a ball at the tree to scare it away....like a one in a million shot, he hits the bird and killed it. It absolutely was an accident....unfortunate and dumb, but an accident. Tripp looks extremely apologetic and you can see the remorse in his face. Not sure this needs jail time. Let's not lynch him quite yet. He doesn't look to be a serial hawk killer. Finn, according to the article it wasn't a "million to one" shot. The hawk was sitting down the fairway from him. Tripp pulled his golf cart down the fairway and hit a bunch of shots at it. Then, he gave up and drove back to the tee. The hawk then flew within 75 yards of him and he started hitting at him again. One shot flew inches from the hawk's head and Tripp got excited. Not sure if it was the very next shot or not, but he ended up hitting and killing him not long after. This is a pro golfer taking at least 10 shots at an animal that's within 75 yards? That would be similar to an archer taking shots at a deer that's 200 yards away.
Strut10
Hawk killed by Pro Golfer What's your take on this?? I could use this guy and his driver up here at the Strut10 Ranch. Too many stinkin' hawks..........a rabbit or pheasant doesn't stand a snowball's chance.........errrr..........golfball's chance. I'd buy him all the buckets of range balls he could fire at them lousy varmints.
