Guest Finn
Our HS gives all the kids 10 personal days each year. They just have to notify them prior and take the day off. Casey is taking his first today, as I think it's a crock to just not go. Works well for Samantha, as she's a SR and needs to visit schools....also, she used them to get her Driver's License (3rd time was a charm)
CampRAGS
10 personal days,,,,you do not get that when you are in the work force,,,you are right its a crock...

toddyboman
Thats crazy.....We never got nothing like that. So what if they miss more than 10 days???
Tominator
10 days! Wow. We give our seniors 3 college visit days, and they have to document that they were there or they're considered truant.
Guest Finn
I can see a few days, maybe 5 for Srs. But giving a freshmen 10 days off a year is crazy. Casey won't use near that many. It is nice not having to lie about a "fever" when we have something going on, though.
stevebeilgard
stupid rule, imho. my kids went to school. the 10 personal days are most likely geared to get the funding all schools lose when a kid "ditches". with a "personal day" planned in advance, the schools get paid as normal. just follow the money trail.... OJR
Just doesn't make any sense at all!
johnf
We've got that at our school and I absolutely hate it. Kids don't have enough sense to know when they shouldn't take them off. The teachers do have to sign off for the to be able to get the day off. I've had kids try to take the day off the day of or the week of a band contest and don't even think about it. I don't sign off on it and it makes me look like the bad guy. I've even told them that I won't do it on the week of contest and they still try to and act mad when I won't. It's stupid if you ask me. When I was in school Srs. got 4 days for college visits. That's more than enough to me.
Bowtech_archer07
We got them in HS, mine were used for deer hunting.. My freshman year, my dad wrote a note that said, "Kyle is going to miss school this morning for 'deerly' personal reasons." But we got 10 days total, parents just had to write a note, after those 10 days, you started getting penalized for missing school.
johnf
Just another way to get the entitlement bug started early in my opinion.
Guest Andrea
No such thing here, never has been. You still have to lie and skip.
Dubie
I want 10 personal days....kids get all the cool stuff....
MCH
We dont' have that at our school. That being said, I get 5 personal days a year and they don't count towards my vacation days. So the idea is out there in the workforce somewhat.
muggs
I think it's a good idea, but 10 is too many. 5 would probably be good, and I think their should be certain requirements a student should have to meet in order to be able to use them. Say for example, they would have to maintain a certain G.P.A (like 3.0), and not have many discipline issues (like under 10 demerits- what have you). This way you're not only allowing students who've earn the right to use a personal day, but you're also giving others some incentive to try harder and behave better. As long as the student is responsible, there's no reason they shouldn't be entrusted with more.
