Guest ckcranch
For gun hunting sometimes I'll get up over 30' with my climbing stand, but for bowhunting I don't like to be much higher then 20'. It all depends on the situation though.
ShaneB
Height does not matter much as long as you climb until you have some kind of cover and the wind is in your favor. This is very true
BearClaw
I go 18' because my ladder is 20' and that gives me something to hold onto while I climb from the ladder to the hang-on.
Guest nyhunter
Some say that if you hunt high you will not be smelled. Others say that height doesn't matter as long as you put the wind in your favor.I like the 15 - 20' range, but if the wind isn't right for a certain stand, i head for an alternative stand. Be comfortable, be safe and always wear a safety belt.
ccwhitey
my family combines three sets of latter sticks together to get get two stands that are higher up and when we use a climber we get up at least 25 and up to 32 feet in the tree. johnf
My lowest hanging or ladder is 16" at the floor. I think a lot also depends on your set up. If it's thick and the deer are coming right under you 8' is enough. For more open areas where you don't have good cover, you should go higher. Most of the time when I'm in a climber I'm 20-25 feet up unless I have good cover lower. I don't see a point being up in a climber less than 15'. Bowtech_archer07
I hunt 10-15 ft in the air. We have a stand that is 10 ft up with great cover around it and we have killed multiple deer out of it. IMHO, I don't see any reason to go above 15-18 ft.
