I've received a few PM's from long time members about my big decrease in posting for the last year or so I thought I'd give a run down on why. Some thought it might be b/c I was made a moderator that I don't post as much but this has nothing to do with my less time in here.

About 2 years ago my wife developed a cyst on top of her head. It started out about the size of a quarter on the left side of her mid-scalp. The cyst ruptured and we went to a plastic surgeon to have it removed. The cyst was infected so after the infection was cleared up the cyst was removed. Everything went fine until it reappeared about 2 months later. This time it ruptured under the scalp and we were sent to a wound specialist. A 2nd surgery was done and during the surgery my wife contracted MRSA (a bad staph infection). After numerous surgeries and loads of antibiotics and 2 years later my wife's lesion finally healed. She lost 3/4 of her scalp on the left side and will never have hair where all the tissue was lost. It took a total of 23 surgeries and 3 skin grafts to get the lesion healed.

Then about 3 weeks ago she started having intestinal problems and joint problems. After she was examined by her physician she was admitted into the hosptal for further tests. After a week in the hospital it was determined that she has lupus--an autoimmune disease that attacks tissues and organs in the body. All her joints are swollen and she is in a lot of pain. There is no cure for this disease but hopefully we can get it under control with medications and proper diet.

So for the last 2 years I have pretty much been a single dad, nurse, and veterinarian. My two young daughters have handled this well and daddy is getting pretty darn good and putting in pony tails and painting nails:)

My family is in for a tough time with this new diagnosis so if you can keep us in your thoughts and prayers the Mauldin's would really appreciate it!!

Sorry to hear this Todd, heck I didn't even know you were a moderator, just a title to me, don't really pay attention to who is but I do pay attention to people that need prayers. I pray that everything works out my friend and that proper diet and medications help your wife out.

My family will keep your family in our prayers Todd. May God watch over your family and aid in whatever comfort you need.

About 1.5 years ago I drew Todd as my Christmas exchange partner and he told me about this. Ever since then Todd your wife has been included in my prayers. I have always wanted to know how she is doing but never dared to ask. I will continue as always to include her in my prayers and now I will include you as well.

Good luck

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family Todd. I've been there, I know what you're going through. Heather's gestational diabetes never went away after son #2 was born, and then she got rheumatoid arthritis with son #3. She was tested for lupus when her joints swelled up and got painful.

and daddy is getting pretty darn good and putting in pony tails and painting nails:)

That just about brings a tear to my eye, because I've been there too.

Hang in there, let us know if we can do anything.

Guest Andrea

So sorry Todd. My mother and sister have both been diagnosed with Lupus. Luckily they manage it pretty well with meds. But when my mother was first diagnosed she stayed in a LOT of pain. Couldn't even get out of bed most days. We were really afraid she might be like that for the rest of her life but nowadays she feels just fine.( Though some days aren't that great)I will keep your wife in my prayers that she will find the right combination of drugs and diet to help with her discomfort.

Congrats on the ponytails Dad.;)
