johnf
You know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway. NEF baby. Mid-range gun with less than beginner price tag.
Tominator
What do you consider mid range? I'd say the Omega.
Guest bowhunter56
I think the CVA Optima is a nice guy, and i think under $200..

What is an NEF?? New Englang Firearms I am assuming? I am not interested in CVA at all. Preferrably a Knight or TC...mid range price $500. Chrud
T/C has a bunch of great muzzleloaders right around $500. The Omega and Triumph are both in the $350 to $550 range, depending on the model. Don't rule out an Encore either. You could probably find a black/blued Encore for around $500. The camo/stainless Pro Hunter is around $750. For the difference in features, I would think a $500 Encore wouldn't be out of the question. Guest SuperKirby
I would have to agree with the Knight KRB7. And, Sportsman's Warehouse is not going to sell them anymore, so they have them really cheap, though it may have to be ordered from another store. I got mine for $267 in the ss/black. wtnhunt
For $500 you could get a nice ml Ken. TC would be my first choice.
Dubie
You know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway. NEF baby. Mid-range gun with less than beginner price tag. I have to agree here. I bought a new NEF muzzle loader a couple years ago, and am quite pleased with it.
johnf
Here's your basic model $179 My dad had one just like it and it would group at 1.5-2" at 150 yards using 100gr. of 777 and 250gr. shock-wave and a red dot with a 3moa dot. Not too bad http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=search_redir&id=0027233215447a&navCount=4&podId=0027233&parentId=cat20815&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=QW&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20815&hasJS=true Here it is in Stainless $260 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0027233215449a&navCount=6&podId=0027233&parentId=cat20815&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=search_redir&catalogCode=QW&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20815&hasJS=true Here it is in Stainless Camo $280 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=search_redir&id=0027231215451a&navCount=10&podId=0027231&parentId=cat20815&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=QW&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20815&hasJS=true
Dubie
I got the basic wood/blue modle. I usualy group around 1" at 100 yards. Killed my deer this year at 250+ yards, dropping him on the spot with a heart shot. (Well, not right on the spot. It knocked him into a ditch full of water behind him. One soggy recovery). Gun and 4x scope cost me under $300, and the only complaint I had was the two piece ramrod broke when I accidently sat on it....
LETMGROW
You can't go wrong with the Traditions Pursuit Pro ML series. Pick one up and handle it and you'll see what I mean. We have 4 in our family now and haven't had problem 1 ! They seem to have all the best of everything except the high cost of many. Guest Colorado Bob
Do you want to got the Hawken (side-hammer) route or the new modern bolt rifle? For me I like playing Jeremiah Johnson. I got me a 54 T/C renegade---BEAR RIFLE---up on the Mussel Shell---Found Hachet Jack froze to a tree! I like that movie. CB
Hardwood_HD
id go with a TC as well.. i would have to agree with chris on the omega
johnf
Nothing cleans easier than a break open. Get the NEF. Come on be one of the cool kids, I know you want to. LOL I've heard great things about the T/C's and the Knights. The only bigger names that I've heard anything bad about is the CVA's. No personal experience with them. I use a T/C scout. Very accurate, but it is a huge pain to clean.
woodshed
Bought a TC Omega thumbhole this year brand new. 300.00 at walmart. It's GREAT to say the least. I upgraded from an inexpensive gun from BPI. It shot well for the most part. It felt like a solid gun. However, it misfired at the deer of the year for me!! Well,,, it's OUT and TC is in. I can't afford to have that happen again. A misfire at the wrong time could happen for many reasons but I know it's less likely with a TCenter. By the way,,, I pulled the hammer back with a new cap and.,, bang.. it was either the gun or the cap. Next year if it happens I guess I'll know it was the cap. Chrud
I did some price checking when I ordered my Pro Hunter the other night... A black/blued T/C Omega was $300 and a wood/blued T/C Encore was $450. Now these are the prices in our area, but they are great prices. Swamphunter
TC I am definitely leaning towards TC. I have a few other TC's but only one of tem an inline. I have the TC Thunderhawk Shadow and although I have piled deer up like cordword with it...it is a .54 cal and the stuff is getting ever increasingly harder to find. Half the time I have to have it ordered for me or order it myself. I want a nice TC inline .50 cal to start hunting with this fall. I kind of like that Triumph...but also like the Omega and ProHunter...man I don't know.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I kind of like that Triumph...but also like the Omega and ProHunter...man I don't know. My dad just picked up a T/C triumph last friday. Sweet gun, haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it feels just as good as my encore does and is lighter than my encore. He bought the black/blued version from cabelas for $
RangerClay
Right now I have no plans for a new ML because I really like my T/C Renegade. But if I was to buy one right now I would get a T/C Triumph. I got to handle one at Dicks and they shoulder nice. Plus the speed breech is really sweet.
