SuperMn106
I just recently found out that my brothers pond has catfish in it and I wondering what is a good way to catch them? I would imagine crawlers but I am not sure how to fish for them in ponds. Thanks for any help.
OUTSIDER
Toss just about anything on the bottom. If they are bull heads, or channels, use cut bait or store bought stuff, if they are flatheads use something a little more fresh, like worms, small bluegill or minnows. You can use a float or just let them on the bottom. I perfer to put a small float to get the bait off the bottom. A slip float if you know how deep the pond is. So you can keep it like 1 foot off the bottom.
SuperMn106
Thanks, I believe the guy said there are some channels and some blues. I didn't know that blues could live in a pond. He said 2 years ago he caught a 25 lb blue. I want to say that the pond is maybe 12 ft deep at the deepest.

turkeybuster
My uncle has two ponds. Ones about 2 acres and the other is about 1 acre. I have found that the best bait is chicken liver off the bottom in ponds. Worms do work and also if you catch small bluegill they tend to catch cats to.I have caught catfish off hotdogs to but they always tend to be very small. I have caught channels in his ponds from 5-13 pounds on chicken liver. I have yet to catch one under 5 pounds on it. I havn't caught as many fish off bluegills as I have chicken liver but when I do they usually are pretty good size. I think the last time me and a friend went fishing with bluegill we caught one weighing 15 and one weighing 17. Thats by far the best we've done. I'll probably never catch one bigger out of there lol. Now as for fishing crawlers it varies. You can fish them off the bottom but sometimes the fish are suspended and its better to fish them from a bobber.Hopefully this helps you a lil. DU_man_84
cut shad is what i would go with, thats all i really ever use for cats, some doughbait from time to time, but i always go back to cut shad or even whole depending on the size

Guest Andrea
Just about anything will catch them. Cut bait, hot dogs, live bait. But I don't eat pond raised catfish. They taste muddy to me.

Hoosierbuck
I'll throw another vote for chicken livers, or jug it with shiners or goldfish even. HB
dlriggins
I have had the best luck in small ponds with bluegill fillets and even pork liver chicken liver is good but the smaller fish wont leave it alone if the pond is not deep enough
