Guest Turtle
But seriously, when Toys are leading the points and over half the laps all weekend who would you expect the commentators to be talking about? OK let's move on, anyone remember who won the spring race at Bristol last year?

snapper
And do ya'll not think NASCAR is getting a big kick back for Toyota even being allowed in the sport? I'm sure GM is getting some of those kick backs as well, seeing how they already have their hands in the cookie jar with Toyota! Give it a few more years and Mazda will be in Nascar with Ford getting some kicks as well.

Nick
Give it a few more years and Chevy's, Fords, and Dodges will be the odd cars out. Give it a few more years and the stands will be empty too! NASCAR is on the downslide right now and has past its peak!! Yup, 5 years ago, all the races were selling out and it was tough to get a ticket. Now days you see big empty spots in the stands and you can pretty much drive down the the track and get a couple seats on race day. When kyle bush won that race in that toyota, I didnt hear any cheers coming from the crowd in the background. On the other hand, when Dale Jr comes by leading a lap, it seems as though everybody in the stands is on their feet waving their hats and cheering. As much as some of you guys like to think that toyota is in the same category as GM, Ford, and Chrysler as far as being American made, theres a WHOLE lot more that disagree with that. And when you have toyota winning races, the die hard American race fans, which includes probably 75% of the crowd or more, will start losing interest and quit supporting the sport. Maybe someday, NASCAR will open their eyes and notice that their #1 reason for even having the sport, isnt there supporting them like they used to....and thats the fans. To me it died the day Dale Sr. died. The sport is grasping at straws at trying to get popular, allowing Toyota to be a part of it is going to be their downfall! Guest Turtle
It's definitely different, don't know about less popular. Used to be affordable to take whole family to track, not really any more like most major sports. Used to be coverage was little to none and if you wanted to know what was going on you needed to be at the track. Now you have several stations TV and radio covering every little detail from living room , plus the internet. Nascar is huge and is driven by huge sponsors who understand the fan base is a whole lot larger than who's at the track. I remember in the past only one local station carried the race and if not enough tickets were sold it was blacked-out, been several years since that happened. Chrud
I agree Nick 100%. To me it died the day Dale Sr. died. The sport is grasping at straws at trying to get popular, allowing Toyota to be a part of it is going to be their downfall! I agree with the both of you. NASCAR was plenty popular and still had it's main fan base in 2001. Heck, even in 2003 when Dale Jr was in the top 5 in points. As soon as Winston left and Nextel came in, the sport went way down hill. Taking away historic tracks and add "Hollywood" tracks. They've gone to this whole high class, Hollywood style and it sucks. I think NASCAR has lost most racing fans. I would rather watch IRL than NASCAR...seriously.
Gator
I have slowly lost interest in Nascar over the years. Like some of ya'll have said, when they took away the older more popular tracks for the likes of some of the others, I lost interest. I am more of an "old school" fan, I miss the old days of bangin and bumping, pushing and fighting and airing it out in the pits, they've gone to mainstream for me
Guest Turtle
Nascar is way different. They went to the big time. They are not less popular, just less popular with original fans. The ones that don't like all the politics, kickbacks, and big business aspects. Luckily, if you remember where Nascar came from ,the ground roots, and that's what you miss, you can return there. Go to your local tracks, your old dirt tracks where it all started. I believe Chrud does, and I'm telling it hasn't changed much. These people will DQ a driver for cheating and are truly appreciative of their fans. Used to be Nascar made the bulk of it revenues from the ticket sales, this is no longer the case. Now the sale of tickets is a mere drop in the bucket compared to Network deals , Kickbacks, and incentives to use a particular product ie Goodyear tires. They are no longer selling their product to the average race fan, but concentrate on biggest paying customers ie FOX , ESPN , Goodyear. I still say it's not less popular but more popular and therefore has been lured away from original fans that brought it here. Our choice is go with them or stay behind where it all started. The local tracks are as good as they ever were, but unfortunately they need the fans to return. Many are closed or closing due to lack of revenue. Others are under attack and are being pressured to close due to noise and or air pollution ( too dusty at dirt tracks). If the old days are what you crave, show your support by going to your local track, they need you more now than ever before. Just as a side note to the ones that loved the old tracks: Rockingham "The Rock" is opening again just won't have Nascar on schedule. Chrud
Just as a side note to the ones that loved the old tracks: Rockingham "The Rock" is opening again just won't have Nascar on schedule. That doesn't do us much good in Wisconsin. The Rock was the best track they went to. Fast, mulit-groove and the mentality of a short track. Check out your local short tracks if you want some great racing. Nothing beats a multi-groove dirt track.
AdvantageTimberLou
Chrud is right, support your local short track, grass roots, no heros, just everyday guys living the dream! Here is one we race at in Michigan. Dixie Motor Speedway. Awesome place to race at and for $25.00, you get in the pits, get up to the drivers and talk with them and be part of the action!! snapper
When kyle bush won that race in that toyota, I didnt hear any cheers coming from the crowd in the background. On the other hand, when Dale Jr comes by leading a lap, it seems as though everybody in the stands is on their feet waving their hats and cheering. Thats because not many people like Kyle Busch and Dale Jr. is the fan favorite...really don't believe it had anything to do with what make of car they drive. Heck, no one cheered last year when Kyle won in a chevy driving for Hendrick...but still cheered for Jr. when he crashed in a chevy. As much as some of you guys like to think that toyota is in the same category as GM, Ford, and Chrysler as far as being American made, theres a WHOLE lot more that disagree with that. I only speak the truth Nick...you can disagree...but you'd be wrong based on facts. GM seen Toyota's out selling American cars...so they figured if they can't beat them...might as well join them! If your unhappy about Toyota's being sold in the US and in Nascar...you'd have to put just as much blame on GM as the average US citizen who buys them. Even blame our Goverment...the Japanesee didn't sneak into the US and open plants to build Toyota's here. On a side note...Toyota's and other foriegn cars/trucks are in the US and being made/sold in the US...like it or not. There are much bigger things in life than to worry about what your neighbor drives!
