danthehunter
Hey guys, we planted some apple trees about 3 years ago, and they were already a year or 2 old, and they still have not produced any fruit. Do you guys know how long it takes any apple tree to produce fruit?
wtnhunt
Are the trees getting pollinated? We have seen apples on trees we planted before in the same year they were planted. Usually the second year they produce a little fruit.
PotashRLS
Each type of apple you plant will grow at different rates. Mine are 8-10 yrs old and are just starting to be consistant. I did prune mine for growth and would pluck most blossoms off so the tree would put more into itself than the apples. My 1st priority was to get the trees above the deer. Tominator
A lot depends on the variety, and pollination. My father in law was a teacher and he had 20 acres of apples he grew as a hobby during the summer for extra money. He taught me just about everything I know about apple trees. I have 4 trees myself. He told me some trees just don't produce. I have one I'm going to take out once the ground thaws because in 10 years, it's never produced a good apple. I have another tree that's going on its 5th year with no apples, so that one will be taken out soon too I'm afraid. I have a winesap, Johnathan, and golden delicious that produce just fine. I'd say your problem is pollination. I'd suggest you buy a golden delicious and plant it nearby and then see what happens over the next few years. If they still don't produce, I'd say you have some dud trees.
Adjam5
Make sure you protect the saplings! Fence them. Rabbits will eat the bark and deer will eat the buds clean. Those are big causes for apple trees to slow grow. Cross pollination, as mentioned; is a factor too. Lime the crap out of them and stay on the pruning.
