NYBUCK
Hey guys and gals, haven't been around much on here lately, work has been hectic and a few health issues have really put a damper on things. Well anyway. some of you know that my youngest daughter has been playing collegiate (Division III) basketball for the past four years. Well it came to an end on Sunday. It is really kinda bitter - sweet. Here is the story. Friday night we played a team from Boston in the first round of the NCAA's. We started strong, up by 18 at one point but let it slip away. 7 minutes left in the first half she takes an elbow to the face the opens up the blood flow from the nose. She goes out, trainer works on her then packs it with some tissues and back in the game she goes. 4 minutes left in the half, she goes up for a rebound and comes down a someones foot and turns her ankle. Out again and the other team cuts our lead to 10 at the half. My daughter is in extreme pain, she is even crying on the bench, and she never cries from pain. She is pretty tough. We figure she is done for the game. We talk to her at half and she says it really hurts. I don't expect her to play anymore. The team is pressing us and with out my daughter in there we can't handle it. They score the first 5 points. I see my daughter go to the trainer and tell her to tape her back up. The trainer makes her do a buch of drills to see if she is ok. I can see my daughter is in pain but she is hiding it from the trainer. She gets taped up and goes and sits next to the coach. The other team cuts the lead to 4 and coach turns to her and says, are you ready and she says you betcha. She enters the game, grabs a rebound, dribbles the length of the court and dishes to our post player and puts us up 6. Next play, she picks off a pass gets fouled and hits two free throws, up 8. She litterly just out ran everybody on the press. She made 10 foul shots in the second hald to help us get our first ever NCAA win in school history. I had so many parents come up to be and tell me what a tough kid she is and that we would have never won that game if it wasn't for her. Sure makes a Dad proud. Next night we are schedule to play the #20 ranked team in the country but ice storm knocks out power and it gets post-poned until Sunday. Sunday at noon we play and end up loosing by 5. The girls played hard and gave it there all but that other team had an answer for every run we made. My daughter finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assist. Four of our starters fouled out of the game as it seemed the refs had it in for us a little. Again after the game, we are walking off the court and a parent from the other team comes up and says, "Dad you should be real proud of that little girl, everytime she steps on the floor she plays with her heart, she gives it everything shes got". I told him you don't even know how proud I am of this little girl. These are the stats she had for the season this year. 366 points 12.6 average 127 rebounds 4.4 average 88 assist 3.0 average 59 steals 2.0 average ( led team) .766 Free throw % .340 3 point FG % SUNYAC regular season champions SUNYAC tournament Champions 4th trip to NCAA tournament First ever school win in the NCAA tournament Most wins in a season 25 Fewest losses in a season 5 She also moved into the top 10 for points all-time at her school. It is sad that it is over, but she ended her career in a great way. These four years have really gone by quick. I will miss it but I could not be prouder of her. She graduates in May and she has alrady been accepted into a Physical Therepy program at one school and is waiting to hear from her first choice on another school. She will need to go three more years. Not only does this girl have game, she also is so driven and I know she will be successful in what ever she does. Texan_Til_I_Die
Even though her basketball days are over, with that type of drive and motivation you can be assured that the best is yet to come.
