philray
I am planning on purchasing a .270 for deer hunting and I am not sure what is the best model. There are so many to choose from it has my head swimming. I am wanting to spend under $600. Do any of you have any suggestions? I have looked at the Remmington 700, Vanguard Weatherby, Savage, and a Howa m1500.
Randy
First off, welcome to the forums!! IMO you can't go wrong with a Savage, or a Remington. You may want to check out Tikka.
The Kid
in my honest opinion if i were going to buy a 270 i would by a remington,, thats what i use, its what my dad uses, and my uncle. all semi autos.. my mom has a 270 remington in a bolt action.. never had any problems with the remington models thats why would suggest them.. I personally like remington and weatherby's not a fan of the savage..
Tominator
If there was a rifle season in Ohio, I'd get a Remington in one of the many 700's that are out there. "Best out of the box..."
bluelund79
Which rifle fit you the best? I'd also throw out the less obvious Mossberg 4x4 or the 100 All Terrain Rifle. I have the 4x4 in 300 Win Mag, and I love that rifle. I also have a TIKKA T3 hunter in 25.06. Both of these rifles are under your $600 budget. In fact with the Mossberg, you can put one heck of a scope on it at that price range as well! Happy shopping.
aksheephuntress
.......Welcome to the forums! ....We have a standard model Ruger in the .270....there is the Ruger Mark 2, now, I believe?...might cost $600-$650, now? ....If you want something less expensive, though...I would recomend a Savage....I always understood that they are the company best reputed to be "accurate right out of the box".... Guest Colorado Bob
My last rifle was a Tikka. Nice gun, accurate, great trigger-----I would do it again. I would also take a 2nd look at the Ruger. CB
LifeNRA
Welcome! I like my Browning A-Bolt Medallion 270, topped off with a nice Nikon Monarch 3x9-40!
OJR
Tikka, T3! I have one in the 270 & 308! Both of them are great guns!
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. Personally I like the model 700's, but there are several good options out there, would not rule out savage model 10 bolt guns by any means if you are on a limited budget. Shoulder as many rifles as you can and see which has a good feel to you.
Hoosierbuck
Savages are shooters, no doubt. I have also had good luck with Browning, Ruger, and Winchester bolt guns. Had a Vanguard for a while that felt good and shot well. That's the same as the Howa. Consider used guns, too. You can get a heck of a deal sometimes. bluelund79
atr is the standard rifle with 4 calibers to choose from, 308,270,30.06 and 243 I believe those are it. It also comes in the Bantam series, which you have in the past said you use the youth models for fit for you. As for the 4x4, it has more options in stocks and finishes. It comes in both long and short action, with more caliber options. I have to admit that I really like my 4x4, with my Tikka being my favorite....I would actually really consider the ATR for my wife when she decides that she wants to deer hunt. For the money, you really can't beat a Mossberg. I know they have their fans and haters, but I am a fan to the tune of a 500 Deer/Waterfowl combo w/Nikon Slughunter, 935 Semi Auto 12 ga (both shotguns are black synthetic w/parkerized finsh, 12 ga Silver Reserve O/U, and my 4x4 in 300 Win Mag w Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40. The 4x4 came with a cheap scope that I took and saved in case I ever wanted to trade it in...However, this is one rifle that looks aside will stay in my cabinet. Missed160
I shoot a 270, why hasn't anyone mentioned Browning A Bolts? I love mine.. The reason I picked it was they were the first ones with a detachable box magazine. I love having that option, I know that Remington & Winchester have it now also.. Jeramie
First off, welcome to the forums!! IMO you can't go wrong with a Savage, or a Remington. You may want to check out Tikka. I agree 100%. Remington makes a great quality fire arm (as long as you stay away from the 710 model). And Savage has really produced a great rifle. Either would suit you well. mailmanmark
.270 Another vote for the Tikka T3. How many guns out there do you get with guaranteed accuracy? Tikka does...........
Lead Poison
Anyone of these would be a great rifle: A. Ruger Hawkeye stainless/synthetic B. Savage 116 with the Accutrigger C. Remington 700 stainless/synthetic SPS

Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
My first gun was/is a Savage .270 that my dad bought me when I was 15 and just starting to hunt. Great gun and I wouldn't hesitate recommend one to someone. However, I have already decided my next rifle will be a Browning A-bolt 300win.
