Brian Vickers is big loser

With Nascar using last years points in first 5 races, Vickers is the big loser. After 4 races he's ranked 9th in points but will start 38 at Bristol with qualifying being rained out.

Come on, this is just wrong. A 9th place car starting behind a 40th place car of Kyle Petty?

Then you got Sam Hornish Jr. who didn't even run but a couple races starting 7 because it's by owner points. Give me a break!

Even got a 30th ranked car Casey Mears starting 5th and his teammate Johnson who hasn't really been a contender all year on the pole.

Do away with this madness or at least only use it for the first 1 or 2 races but not 5.

It should be the fastest 43 cars make the field, no matter who they are. If Junior, Gordon, Johnson, Stewart or anyone else isn't fast enough to make it, send them home. Rain should never cancel qualifying. There is no reason they couldn't do it the morning of the race.

I hate the current standard of qualifying too but it would be next to impossible to qualify on the same morning of the race, especially if it starts at 12:30 or so. They have to go from qualifying trim to race trim in less than 2 hours and then they have to be inspected for each qualifying session. Then reinspected after qualifying and then inspected after they set up in race trim. Not to mention the meet and greets they have to do for sponsors. I do think they should come up with a special rule for rain canceled qualifying and go by the current season's rankings.

BowJoe , Brought up another good point but something I also think needs to be changed. Why have a qualifying setup and a race setup? If it's not the way your going to race it then the qualifying time doesn't mean much. Make all the races impound races, if you want to make adjustments do it on your pit stops. Run the cars through inspection, qualify, impound, race, post inspection. Seems fair to me.

Run what you brung, you want to qualify with a certain setup you better be willing to race it that way.

Only having to worry about one setup should free up some time for the meet and greets you mentioned.

Tech the cars before qualifying and after the race. Don't worry about airing in on TV. So many races are scheduled for later afternoon, make them all with a 2:00 ET start. If they want to go for the pole, let them risk having the wrong setup for the race. These teams get paid so much money and are so good there is no reason they can't have the setup changed in 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Assuming the Busch races gets in today, I bet there would be A LOT of time after that race for qualifying.
