mathews4life Posted January 15, 2005 Report Share Posted January 15, 2005 Here in louisiana we have a six deer limit which is in my eyes way to much and it is so easy for someone to get away w/ killing over the limit bc there is no tagging system. Another problem is that their is no antler restriction laws, anything goes. I absolutely dispise the way louisiana goes about managing their deer herd. Deer hunting has been on a constant decline in the last few yrs w/ the number of quality bucks dropping dramatically as well. After hunting in other states w/ ethical and "thought out" game rules, i realised how idiotic the DOWF over here is. They sit back and do nothing about the problem when something has to be done. I was just wondering if there is anything, as a hunter, that i could do to try and start something to try and get them to change the law. For me i would propose to have a 3 deer limte (2 bucks and 1 Doe) w/ a tagging system or check in station(must check in each deer at an authorized station). Also there needs to be some sort of antler restriction and to me I believe a legal buck should have to have at least 3 points on one side in order to be harvested. Something has to be done if we want to keep a quality deer herd in louisiana. Any of you guys have any advice to what i could do to present these ideas and have somethin done about this. Evryone talks about it but no one wants to step up and do something about it but i do. Any advice would be appreciated. Petitions would be the way to go, and the media as well. buckee has a good point, once the media is involved, everyone will see that it is a very potential problem and they will fight for a changes in the laws and regulations as well.
