98chevy
So i was reading the paper this morning before i headed to church so it was around 700 am. Out of the corner of my eye I see what I thought was a hawk and then it flew into a tree and It looked like a duck. So I got my binoculers out to check and see closer. It was 2 woodies and, for about 45min they flew around tree top to tree top. I've never seen any thing like it. And they where high enough where It be hard to even hit them in the truck. Of course I went and got my woodie call after they left and called for about 20 min just to heer them respond as they flew down the river. Man I love ducks. Its been jan since ive thought about them now i can wait till teal season in september.(also all my neighbors came out on there porch to see what that awfull racket was. quackmaster4
I was hunting the spring turkey season a couple years ago, high on a ridge more than a 1/2 mile or so from any water. Had a couple woodies land in a tree, then fly down and feed on the ground maybe 40 to 50 yards away. I guess they were finding acorns as there were still some around. My buddy still makes fun of me calling in woodies while we were hunting gobblers.
Tominator
They were probably looking for a place to nest. Woodies nest in tree cavities.

RTF
Not only do they nest in tree's they also roost in tree's at night too. Had a few fly down into the swamps from tree's over my years of duck hunting.
