Re: How many of you reload?

I am just getting into reloading. I have been doing some looking reading about different powders and loads. I am just waiting for the weather to break so I can get to the range. I will be reloading for my .270, hunting rifle, and what ever gun I end up building for my benchrest/varmint gun, I believe a .243 or maybe a 6mm Rem.

Re: How many of you reload?

I also just started to reload. It is a great way to keep costs down & get ammo for some of the different cartrdges I shooot that is liited in thier factory selections Like the 35 Whelen & 300 savage . It will also enable me to practice more often with my 300 WBY because I can make the catridges much more cheaply than I can buy factory ammo.

I have not gotten into benchrest shooting...........but I do enjoy LONG range g-hog shooting with my 22-250!

me... I did. Really didn't know how far Spyderpancakes wanted me to go with that answer. You know how those rifles are. Loads vary by rifle.

Re: How many of you reload?

Nope, I shot in a friendly postal match about 8 years ago. I have mainly used it for long range target shooting, some long range coyote shooting, and have taken a couple deer with it.

I thought about building a National Match AR for service rifle shoots. All I need is another hobby. I think if I get into any other rifle competition, it will be high power silhouette. Standing on your hind legs shooting 500 meters at a critter is fun!

Re: How many of you reload?

my dad reloads almost all of ours. my dad and i have 7mm-300wtby and my brother and i also have 270 gibbs. so we cant buy ammo for those. but he also reloads for his reg 7mm and 25-06 and he is teaching me how to load for my 22-250 and 223. so yeah we reload.

i just wonder if it is worth buying all the equip and supplies to reload if i can just buy new for cheaper

It depends on how much you shoot. If you shoot a few shots just before hunting season and a few shots at animals, stick with factory ammo. If you shoot a few boxes of ammo every year, reloading may pay for itself.

I can reload .300 Weatherby Magnum ammo for $16.80 (including brass use of 5 loads) per box of 20. Equivalent quality factory ammo is $45.00 per box of 20. The price delta is not as significant when comparing the .223 Rem, .308 Win, 7.62x39, or other very popular rounds that can be had in surplus.

A benefit to reloading is customizing your load to match your situation. If you want a lighter recoiling load for the 30-06, you can handload that pretty easily. If you want a certain bullet that is not available in factory ammo, you can hand load that. You can match the ammo to the gun. By playing with velocity and bullet seating depth you can squeeze the best accuracy from the gun. Factory ammo, you are stuck with what cookie cutter ammo they make.
