Bowtech_archer07
I used to do it extremely bad and still catch myself doing it from time to time. Shoot at a big target, where you are positive you aren't going to miss the target and ruin an arrow, this might help. Also, when I had extremely bad target panic, whenever I drew, I had to tell myself to put the pin on the target, put the pin on the target. It helped, and eventually I broke myself of it. Last summer my buddy and I shot shot our bows at least every other day, 25-50 shots/day. That is what cured it for me. A LOT of shooting. Hope this helps and good luck! ultratec1
I use to have target panic also and it is a frustrating thing to have. First you need to recognize what is going on with your shot. Are you holding low, doing drive-bys, punching the trigger? I use to hold low and for the life of me couldn't get the pin up the center, so I would jerk the bow up and punch the trigger at the sametime. WOW those days were not fun. I beleive that the #1 thing is to find a release that has NO TRIGGER TRAVEL!!! Whether it be a index release, thumb trigger or back tension. I started out with a Carter solution 2 that Tony was generous enough to let me use. What I did to cure myself was blank bale ALOT with that same release. If you dont know what blank bale is, its when you get 2-3 yrds from the target butt, pull back get settled and close your eyes and CONCENTRATE on nothing but the release. This is where you will learn alot about your release and the proper way of shooting it. Dont worry about where that arrow goes but worry about proper form and a good release. While you are doing this visualize your pin floating around in the X. Next thing I did was I got back to 20 yrds and pulled my bow back, put my pin on the target and let it just float there, NEVER shooting the arrow. Just letting it float. After 10-15 seconds let the bow down, take a break then repeat the process. Next thing after you feel comfortable with that is to shoot a round at 10 yrds. Get the feeling of shooting x after x. When you shoot a 60 move back to 12 yrds and keep going. Its going to take time and patience but the reward is worth every min. The biggest thing that you have to remember is it all in your head. Tell yourself that you can let the pin float in the X and you DONT HAVE TO SHOOT until YOU want to. Let the shot happen. If its not going the way you want LET DOWN, you DONT HAVE TO SHOOT!!! Let us know how things go and fill us in on how the progress is going.
dosse
I have had it for years now and have just recently beat it out. I bought a new bow and said that i was gonna beat it so i started shooting around 100+ arrows a day totally focussing on form and aiming at that dot and holding it was frustrating for a while but after two weeks or so i was better and now im doing great i can hold on what i want to shoot take my team and release. Practice was the only way i beat it i have never shot much outside of hunting season but now that im shooting alot and started shooting 3d im very happy with myself
Tony
i agree with what Ultratec1 has to say completely. i found that the Carter Solution 2 was good for me to learn BT. but like Ultratec1 said its more than just release, its whats going on in your shooting form. proper shooting form starts with grip, proper draw length, proper draw weight, good solid anchors, foot position, proper bow arm position and release hand position. all of these help you to hold a little steadier, but Ultratec1 gave me the best advice that really sunk in. he said, "its not where the pin is, its where your concentration is". that means quit concentrating on the pin and concentrate on the center of the target. i really recommend finding someone close to you to give proper instruction on shooting. it can help you so much. once you can shoots spots, this all makes oyu a much better and more accurate hunter. hoytman26
"its not where the pin is, its where your concentration is". that means quit concentrating on the pin and concentrate on the center of the target. THIS SAYS IT ALL.
