Oklahoma Proposed Changes, making headway

I read in a local paper yesterday (Pryor Daily Times) that proposed changes to deer season have made it past the first step in a two step process to become law.

The first of which is that Archery Season Limits have increased by two. The paper didnt state whether that was total limit or just shuffling two from the existing limit onto the archery season.

Also, you will be able to harvest either a buck or doe during the two week archery hunt in January. There were others but none that really made that big of a splash....

Just fyi if anyone wants to look into it further.

Jeramie, from what I've seen of the proposed change, all it does is allow us to harvest our 6 deer limit, all with a bow if we like.

I really like the buck or doe in January, but I'm pretty sure that it counts towards your 2 buck max.

Also, a big change for this area is that now, 3 Rivers is open for rifle season during the second week. Before, local WMA's were closed the second week of gun season.

  • 3 weeks later...

I believe it was two last season. It use to be three but they are trying to improve the buck heard.

The deal with the two weeks: In January we have an extended bow season. It does a couple of things, number one it forces a lot of people to buy tags and it also helped to eliminate our doe problems.

Now theyve added the buck as a legal kill and that is awesome. So basically our bow season runs from October 1st to January 15th!
