TreeWalker
Is there any members of these forums that live in the Greeneville area ?? I didn't even think of this before hand, because it seems like everything was a rush, but we just got back from a weeks vacation in the Bulls Gap area, visiting the inlaws and doing some quick site seeing. Wish I'd have given it some thought before hand, but I guess we really were crunched for time, but it would have been cool to meet some members.....will make it a point next time though. Was cool to see the Bristol Speedway before Saturdays Busch Series, and watch the jets fly over. I know being such a history buff, I could spend a couple of months down there no problem. I'll give a shout out to all the fine folks at Phillipi Church as well (spelling) including Pastor Roger Dalton....some of the kindest and nicest folks I've met. wtnhunt
That is at the opposite end of the state from us Clay, but if you drove and went down 40, you were within 30 minutes from us.
TreeWalker
Yep, we came down from Fargo, ND on I29 till Kansas City, and shot over to St Louis on I70, then I64 to Mt. Vernon-IL , then I57 to Marion. Then it was down to Peducah-KY on past Clarksville-TN on I24, and then got on I40 at Nashville, through Knoxville and turned off at Greensville. On the way back we headed up I75 from Knoxville through Lexington-KY, Cincinnati-OH to Indianapolis-IN....from there we grabbed I65 to Chicago and then on to I90 to Rockford and through Benoit and Madison-WI and then I94 through Miineapolis/St. Paul and right on home. TreeWalker
Ya, I've had my fill of driving for a while. Wife and I traded off straight through, but the way back her back was really bugging her, so I drove the majority of it....longest stretch I drove 14 hours straight with an occasional gas fill to stretch my legs (2pm till 4am). Takes about 22 hours one way.
Shaun_300
That's a long haul! One of the guys in my ASEP class went down to Bristol last year for the race, said it was a blast!
unioncountyslayer
Why on God's green earth would you put yourself through that drive!
TreeWalker
Why on God's green earth would you put yourself through that drive! Cuz Momma Said !! Well, actually she wanted to fly, but considering it was gonna be 6 of us (us and the 4 kids), I knew we could drive for what one of those plane tickets was gonna cost us. It ran us just over $400.00 for gas to make the round trip.

TreeWalker
Hey Turtle, what do you think of that NASCAR sanctioned track they are putting in there ?!?! They've done a great job, and can't wait to watch some races there in the coming years....my inlaws live just north of there, next to Philipi Church. While we were there, you could here the cars practicing at night....was pretty cool, but I couldn't talk the wife in going down there to check it out, LOL
