Washi
Can anyone tell what kind of rifle shell this is on the far right?
Shaun_300
Any rough idea what the bullet diameter is Washi? It sort of resembles a .303 Savage.....
Washi
I just found an empty .30-06 case and slipped it over the end and it almost fit all the way down the bullet, maybe 1/16" short. So ya it is about .30 caliber. I have never seen a .303 Savage before so I don't know.
hangunnr
The rifle shell looks to be a 7.62X54R. It was a Soviet block military round. Take a look at this link for some more info. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/2/27/300px-76254Rvariety.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.answers.com/topic/7-62-x-54r-mm&h=206&w=300&sz=48&hl=en&start=2&um=1&tbnid=kNwET45x-XrimM:&tbnh=80&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3D7.62x54r%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-US%26sa%3DN hangunnr

Texan_Til_I_Die
The SKS uses a 7.62x39. Not quite as potent as the 7.62x54. BTW - Are those 2 spots on the base firing pin strikes? If they are, then you've either got an inert (dummy) round, or you're holding a potentially dangerous live round. Can you tell if it has any powder in it? David_218
8x50R m/m Your shell is a 8x50Rm/m Lebel. It was one of the first military cartridge loaded with smokeless powder. It's power is about like the .30-40 Krag.

Washi
The bullet looks like it was pulled, the powder taken out, and the bullet put back in. You can see marks on the bullet I think from pliers. Thanks everybody. I went and looked and yes it looks just like the 8x50R Lebel.
