_MD_
http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?id=3681 Controlled Pheasant Hunts Under Attack in Illinois! Friday, March 14, 2008 One of the efforts promoted by the anti-hunting “animal rights” extremists at The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is calling for an end to state-run Pheasant Stocking Programs. These programs provide game birds for hunting opportunities, but in Illinois, the program is under attack! NRA has been told that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has been instructed by Governor Rod Blagojevich's (D) Administration, that due to budget cuts, it will have to close down pheasant propagation sites, thus putting an end to IDNR's Controlled Pheasant Hunts. This, in spite of the fact that the program is heavily funded by fees paid by hunters, themselves. These Hunts are often the only opportunity for hunters in Illinois to take part in harvesting pheasant. Governor Blagojevich masquerades as a supporter of hunters and law-abiding gun owners, while consistently promoting anti-hunting and anti-gun efforts. It is no wonder he is highly regarded by HSUS. NRA has always held that anti-gun zealots first target certain guns, then target hunters, and this effort is more confirmation of such tactics. While the Illinois General Assembly continues what seems to be a never-ending struggle over the Illinois budget, several Town Hall Meetings have been scheduled throughout the state to allow citizens to offer their input on budget-related issues. Below, you will find a listing of the dates, times, and locations of events we encourage hunters to attend, to make sure their opposition to ending these Controlled Pheasant Hunts is understood. Please make plans to attend one near you, and bring your fellow hunters and supporters of hunting along.
stevebeilgard
the way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. same ploy for the anti's. take away bear baiting here, take away mt lion hunting there, a pheasant hunt over there, a .... you get the idea. and it's working. no mountail lion hunting in california in 20 years, and now lions are eating kids & joggers. (well, the is a plus....) no bear baiting in parts of canada and u.s., and the bears are getting out of hand. the hsus will keep after hunting until there is none. simple as that. so, we have to fight as a group on every front. and i personally do. OJR
Another thing to watch for is get more predators released and pretty soon, there will not be any game animals to hunt! Now they have succeeded at stopping hunting. No hunting, no need for guns! Wake up people to how these people are operating!
MUDRUNNER
I sure hope it's not to late!As a person that participates in a few of these hunts a year it makes no sense!Like the article says most of,if not all, of the funding for this comes from the fee they charge you to hunt the controlled properties,so I don't buy blaming it on the budget one bit.I think I dislike Gov. Blago more and more evry day. I have three controlled pheasant hunting areas within 40 miles of me that are filled up every weekend, and I see most of the meetings are up north around Chicago....imagine that. Texan_Til_I_Die
Do they stock any fish in that state? If so, ask them when those stockings are scheduled to end?

The article i read said they may consider raising the fee to hunt from $15 to $25 or $30. Maybe they want to thin the crowds out a bit. BowJoe
It's crazy to think that they are doing away with the only things that make a profit, or at least some revenue, in this state. Next will be state park hunting period. I know for a fact that the locally largest pheasant rearing location is the Mt. Vernon Game Farm that I just started hunting this past year. It supplies most of central and Southern Illinois' pheasants. What a shame that the people that are most outspoken for their rights are shutting down our rights and we outnumber them by the millions. It's because we are about truth and they are about lies and just because the city folks don't do something, they assume it's evil and they have no use for it. They are the ones with all of the immoral values and societal pollution. What a shame that we have such a lowsy system that people are afraid to oust the "Leader".
