Bowtech_archer07
Has anybody else been finding a lot of "acorns" on their sheds or harvests. I mean like a knot on the antler where it might have gotten bitten or injured. Mine and a lot of other people around here have been finding antlers w/ "acorns" on them and I was just wondering if it was everywhere, or just something here that was causing so many of them. Zambo
I have picked up three sheds in the last couple of years with an acorn tip on them. They are the first that I have collected in 10 years of shed hunting. I figured acorn tips are like stickers or drop tines, they show up on antlers once in a while. However why did they show up in just the last year? Good question.
Turkeygirl
I thought I remember reading somewhere they are caused by a bug getting into the antler/velvet when they are growing in the summer.... I may be wrong, but I have a few with acorns...even a couple bucks I've gotten during hunting seasons have an acorn
toddyboman
I thought I remember reading somewhere they are caused by a bug getting into the antler/velvet when they are growing in the summer.... Kinda what I thought.....Has something to do with the growth period when in velvet....rather it is a bug or just some type of small injury:)
Hardwood_HD
i have a shed that has one and a dead 6pt i found has one too
Tominator
I think it's directly proportional to how many akerns they eat while in velvet, you know, like your mom always used to tell you, if you eat too much of one thing, you'll turn into that thing? Actually, I have no idea how they get them, and I've never killed a deer with one, nor have I ever picked up a shed with one.
deershed
No acorn sheds this year, but found this set a few years ago.I saw this buck early in the season and wanted his sheds bad.It took me a while, but I ended up finding both his antlers. It was that acorn on his g-2 why I wanted his sheds so bad. Bowtech_archer07
I'm pretty sure it's the antler getting bit in velvet by a bug or something, just wondered why they started to be more common this year than in past years?
