Straight Shooter
I was just in the garage and came across my first spider of the year. It's 31 degrees outside this morning but I guess the arachnid's are starting to come out here. My question is to all of you big outdoor men and woman, what do you do with them. Here's my scenario, everyone in my neighborhood will call me for bear, raccoons, strange vehicles parking in our neighborhood, snakes, injured loons, (the loon story is one I liked to forget) and all kind of things. These things don't bother me, but brother a spider is an other story. Granted I don't have a phobia of them but I do give the respect they deserve until I can get something in my hand to squash, smash, or smear them. My wife, not being and outdoorsy person, captures these little eight legged critters in a dust pan, paper towel, napkin or what ever and releases them back outside; she even did this with a black widow one time. That thing only got to use two of her eight legs to escape my foot as soon as she put her outside. I laughed so hard one night on another occasion when she tried to wipe up a small spider and smeared it tiny butt across the counter top trying set it free from a sure death by me. I guess is what I'm asking to do save them, leave them alone or death by association with 8 legs! I do leave them alone outside, but in my house their a goner. WHISKEYSWAMP
the first year I lived in my house I killed at least 200-300 what I think are called wolf spiders that were trying to hibernate in my garage for the winter. I'd say I kill at least a 100 every fall but it seems to be getting under control. I've never been a fan of spiders myself.
Tominator
They are predators, they get a free pass in my house/property. Unless they startle me.
wtnhunt
Been seeing spiders here for a while now. Wasps and skeeters are out already and aggressive too. Spiders do not really bother me, dont mind the webs too much either as long as there is not something that hits me in my mouth in the webs. We do have some bad spiders around though. Have had brown recluses in the garage and shed. Really do not like them.
Adjam5
I try to catch them and release them..now. When we had lizards, it was like a treat for them and us watching them eat 'em. But yes, now that you do mention it, I did see one in the Kitchen yesterday. It was no so lucky...it was very windy and I did not feel like letting the cold in...SPLAAT! Guest Andrea
If it resembles a brown recluse or a black widow or it has lots of hair...it's smush. I like to leave the ones alone that are in the corner of the window on the outside. I like to watch them eat.

M00N
The rules around this house is if the spider is in a living quarter, kitchen, or bathroom it dies no questions asked. If it's elsewhere it lives unless it's a Black Widow or Brown Recluse spider. We currently are living in an area with a high mosquito population. We tried to get the Borough we live in to spray and kill some of the mosquitos from the mudhole behind our house on their property because of the West Nile threat, but then the state declared the area a "protected wetlands" and our plans got shut down. So, every little spider around the outside of the house or inside near the doors helps keeps those nasty mosquitos away and gets to live in most cases. I personally don't mind spiders unless they startle me or bite me. I find Wolf Spiders a lot in the basement when it floods they all run up and hide out in our basement from the woods near us and they are one of the few spiders that I find cool and actually handle without any problems, though the real big ones can be quite intimidating when you look at their fangs.
