silentgate
I would like to get a pair of 10x42 binoculars for the upcoming turkey season. Don't have a lot of money to spend though. What's the best binocular for the money?
wtnhunt
Dont know how much is a lot to you, but if you can afford them, would probably get a pair of nikons. Good glass for the money in my opinion.

johnf
What about those Leupold "wind river" bino's. I've been looking into better quality glass, but have too many other things on my wish list. I'm spending more on realoading than anything right now. Guest MIhillbilly
I just bought a pair of Nikon 10x34's (the dream season edition) and I'm really happy with them. I think Nikon may be the best bang for the buck.
lil hunter
I have a pair of Bushnell Trophy 10x42's. I don't like anything about them. The focus adjustment is so stiff it's nearly impossible to do it while looking through them. I always have to hold it down and push with my thumb. They also fog up, when they are suppose to be fog proof. Last part is, the thing holding the front lense covers on came unscrewed so I no longer have those. I wish I had been a member of the forums last year when I had the same question. I went with the Bushnell trophy in realtree armor. I've used them twice bowhunting in good weather conditions and they were ok. However, I've yet to use them in the rain, or more severe conditions. Interesting that they fogged up on you. From their website: "Waterproof: O-ring sealed and nitrogen-purged for 100% reliable, fog-free performance" I'm taking them to Idaho for Spring bear hunting for the real test. I'll post a report. I'm worried now, I wish I had went with Nikon last year.

EKYhunter
Go with the best Nikons you can afford. Or stick with what you already have until you can save enough to get a pair of Nikon Monarchs. I've got the 8x42 Monarchs and love them. I also have Nikon scopes and a Monarch 800 rangefinder. I don't think you can beat their optics for the money.

whitetailtrax
I bought my Dad the Wind River binocs a few years ago....we're very happy with them and would certainly recommend them. I love my Wind River Binos! Used a pair for 8 years and quite honestly abused them to the point that the alignment was off so I sent them in for repair and Leupold sent me a brand new pair - no questions asked. Great glass and awesome customer service!
plannerman
Get the Nikon Monarchs unless you want to spend A LOT MORE $$$$.... you won't be disappointed.
Randy
I have the Leupold Cascades, $329.99 and my buddy has the Nikon Monarchs, $319.99. I would say little if any difference between the two. Both great Binos....
wildthing
I am looking into a new pair myself. I had a $30 pair from Walmart the last two seasons but they are kind of falling apart. I am looking to upgrade too. Need good optics!
bowana
Take a look at Alpine Optics. They don't do alot of advertising, but I believe the owner is an ol' Bauch and Lomb Guy (think I spelled it right). I personally own Leupold, Swarovski EL's and Leica Rangefinding 10x42's. I think Alpine's line will give some of the top guys a run for the money. My advice...and only my opinion.....look at anything other than Bushnell. I would compare the Alpine line with the Nikon line...probably the best bang for the buck. I tend to like Leupold a little better, but they generally cost a little more. Stop at a Cabelas or Sportsman and try them all before you buy.
