(I did juvie court for two years, but that was in Indiana, not Colorado.) Juvie system is set up to try to redirect these kids and provide them services to help change their ways. This is not jail, which, I concur, does not rehabilitate. You are not doing yourself or society any favors by not following through and filing charges. I do not believe there will be any legal repercussions in the criminal arena, and seriously doubt any in the civil arena. Your kid took him once, which is a blow to a bully, and he probably won't want to risk it again, IMO, from dealing with those kids growing up. Point is, he's already pissed at your boy, might as well put him under a spotlight and try to get him squared away rather than just hoping he chooses a weaker victim next time, or that he doesn't try to get even with a little extra help from a weapon. I am a Christian (though I am chief of sinners), but in this context, I firmly believe that turning the other cheek means forgiving in your heart, and doing what is right by society and ultimately this kid, as well as under the law is another issue to deal with. davetucker Posted March 25, 2008 Report Share Posted March 25, 2008 maybe it is an answer to prayer!!!I am getting this felling maybe you could reach out to this young man and invite him to your home or just atke him out for an outing!!Some kids who come from a broken or disfunctional home life need and intervention to get them on the right path!!You obviously feel it in your heart that you want to do the right thing,and i'm not sure putting him through the system is the right thing to do!!!Maybe make up your own punishment that has to put him and your son together (not to fight)but to get to know eachother and maybe your son can be a positive thing in his life!!To many people jump at the option to put young people through the"ringer" and i think a better step could be taken!!Pray and i'm sure our father god will point you in the right direction!!!
