I got drawn to hunt a WMA close by for the first week of our season. I went it on Friday to try and roost one and didn't roost anything!:( I made up my mind that i would go back to that same area because the sign showed bird frequented the area a bit.

Saturday came and as i arrived to the road that i was hunting down i found out that i wasn't hunting alone. i had another hunter that beat me to the area, but i head off down the road as well and set up on the back side of a food plot. As it started to break light the boys woke up and let everyone know where they were. i didn't move b/c i figured the man that beat me to the area was probably down in the bottom with them. at about 8:30 to 9:00 i hear a shot come from the bottom the birds are in so i figured he got him one. i picked up and was going to meet him out and move down in the after the others. When i get to the road i hear cutting and cackling so i moved around on them and set up couple of hundred yards from where i hear the rucous. after about 15 min i called up and hen and that was it for the morning. I got back to the truck at 11:00 and couldn't decide if i wanted to go home or keep hunting.

I get to my truck and quickly decide to try a road that i tried to roost one on friday. i drive down the road to a creek and go ontop of the hill just across the creek. i get out and yelp about 5 notes and hear nothing!!:( i give a few sharp cutts on my glass call and hera a real faint gobble. the terrain on this place is really deep ravines and hollows. i couldn't tell is it was a gobble or not. I decided to get my stuff and head inside the woods. My truck is in the middle of the road, windows down and keys in the ignition!!:D i get inside the woods and hit the crow call and hear nothing ,so i start to 2nd guess myself. i keep on walking and come to a creek and walk down the creek about 30 yards or so. When i come up i yelped on the glass call and he hammers about 100 yards on top of the ridge! i jump to the closest tree and get ready! he's coming FAST!! i give a few soft yelps and he's closer. then sudenly i catch movement coming down the ridge and he struts just for a second and continues straight to me!! I wanted to see how close he would come but i couldn't stand it too much longer. He only got 21 steps from me!!:D He sported a 10 5/8 in. beard with matching 1 1/8 spurs and weighed 22 pounds!! My pictures are too big to post!!:mad: i'll have to email them to strut or another admin.

Later that afternoon, my brother wanted to try to bushwack a bird they saw fly off the roost. we got to our property about 5:00 and walked to the back and got my brother set up and before i could find a place to setup we had birds at the top of the road strutting. they would duck under the fence which was the property line and come back on our side. after about and hour and half of this going on i had my brother crawl to where he could shoot to the top of the hill. i stayed behind him about 100 yards. there was bird walking in the road in front of him at what looked like 20 to 30 yards but to him they were about 60-70. after about 15 min or so watching bird walk back and forth he layed the smack down and a hude bird at 20 steps. his birds sported a 11 1/8 in beard and 1 3/8 right spur and 1 1/4 left spur and weighed 23-24 pounds!! not to mention it was his first turkey after missing 2 or 3 and spooking about that manymore trying to get shots on them.

All in all the only thing that could have may my saturday any better would have been for my dad to kill his first in many years. but i'm working on that one!! i 'll have to email picts to a mod as of my brother.
