slughunter
Back in 2004 I was set up over my decoys and called in 2 nice gobblers. At 30 yards I put my bead right on one of the gobblers head and pulled the trigger. Instantly he fell over and didnt really flop at all. So I stayed put for a few minutes and then put my gun down and gave my grandpa a call (he was just over the hill). Right when he picked up the phone the gobbler just got up and ran off. Didnt leave me any time to get my gun up. It would of been my first gobbler but it was deffenetly a lesson learned. Has this ever happened to you? -shane

PA_Spike_King
I'm glad you asked because YES I have. In 2006 I was at our camp and I was sitting at the first landing the first morning and it was just after daylight when it took place. I just got my facemask on and didn't even have time to call and I looked not 50 yards in front of me there (in full strut) stood 2 monster gobblers. I took aim on the biggest and down he went. I was getting up to go stand on his head and as I jumped up he went running down through the woods. I pumped 2 more rounds into him but he kept running in full strut. The gang and I went after him a short time later but we didn't get him. The guys that lease the property next to us found him some time later (just a pile of feathers and the beard) witch by the way was over 11 inches long and would have been my best to date but it just wasn't meant to be. I still recall that hunt and can't believe I didn't get him. :( And when I took the shot he was only at 35 yards.

boomer
not to a turkey but to a goose. After it was shot and the dog brought it back it went in the pile of bird in the front of the boat. About after an hour of being shot I hear something and see a goose standing in the front of the boat. Then all **** broke out had a goose running around the boat with a lab hot on its tail. I bet it sounded funny on the outside of the boat.
Jorden
Happened to me and my dad last year. My dad shot this one at 30 yards and we got up immediately to go get it and when we got within ten yards it got up and ran across the field, right past my brother. WHISKEYSWAMP
I think it would have happened to my largest bird to date if I had not ran to it after the shot... he still had a lot of life in him when I was standing on his head but eventually my big foot won. lol
the one
No this has never happend to me. But I hade to run after one last year with my hunting partner. When we ran him down after 80 yards I looked to mike and asked him what size loads did he have in his shoot gun he replyed #6. I told him this aint HOLLYWOOD and then gave his some numbers 4. That was the last day that I run after a BIRD
Rhino
Hummm...let's just say I've missed my share of birds in the past. For Tominator's sake...I consider it a miss if the bird gets away...even if he's hit. Long story there for those of you that don't understand. I've had multiple reactions from birds that resulted in a miss. Some sort of backed up and hit the air, some flopped around before hitting the air or running off, and then there was one that just flat disappeared from view before his periscope popped up and he took off. A long time ago I had a near miss. I flipped a bird over and he took off running. I took off in hot pursuit at maybe 1/2 his pace. The bird was out of sight when I reached the 50 yard line but I kept running in that direction anyway. At about 150 yards I saw my bird flopping on the ground. All I can figure was his neck bone was damaged from the shot but not completly broken until he hit something that finished him off while running through the woods. NiteRunner
Had my biggest bird do something like that. Him and his 2 buddies strolled in and I took the leader. I shot and after the shot he somewhat went down and then just went a blasting through the woods!! My and my buddy took off after him and after a couple hundred yard chase we stopped. My buddy turned to me and said "well I think you might have missed...." Right as he said that my bird started beating his winds on the ground not 30 yards farther. I did hit him but just not enough to knock him right over. Had we not followed him I wouldn't have him.
fly
Not with a turkey, but I shot a deer some years ago that did that same thing. After the shot the 7-pointer went down about 20 yards from the shot. At 60 yards away he hadn't moved in 5 minutes and looked dead to me. As I approached he got up and ran like he had never been hit. I shot three times with my slug gun and missed all three times. From there the story gets so bizzare that I doubt anyone would believe it. I did end up tagging the buck and filling my freezer with venison.
Ethan Givan
Never happened to me but it did to my brother last year. He shot a bird at about 40 yards and it fell over but started floppin like crazy then took off across the field. It went into a creek bed which slowed it down enough for my brother to catch up to it and finish it off.
