Jorden
...plant spring and summer food plot for nutrition and then in the fall broadcast attractant seeds, such as oats or wheat or some other kind of annual fall attractant, into your plot so you can use them as hunting plots in the fall. If so, have you had success with this method. I am looking to try this tactic this year to try and attract more deer to my property. I have not had much success with perennials such as clover and chicory attracting deer in the fall and winter so this year I wanted to try something different. dogdoc
I always plant a nice mix of cereal grains late summer for fall/winter attractiveness. Being high in carbs they are also a great nutrition source during the cold and rutting season. Overseeding into an existing warm season plot can have success but not near as much if you broadcast into a clean seedbed. The larger seeds of the cereal grains will germinate but still need to make contact with the soil in order to germinate. Even if you just lightly disced over the existing warm season plot and then broadcast you will have much more success.
PotashRLS
We like to plant nearly everything in the late summer(fall for us) except beans and corn. The perennials like clover and alfalfa worked well with a non-turnip brassica Lightly overseeded with it as a cover crop of sorts. The brassica is high in protein and gives you a versatile plot the first year. The grain crops are good if planted early and actually mature. They are highly attractive when planted in the fall but are low in nutrition without the grain head. You have to decide what kind of plots (nutrition or attraction) you want and how big of a variety you can afford to offer the deer. The fall plantings allow you to knock back your weeds throughout the summer but you will never ever have a weed free plot.

wtnhunt
Have used wheat and wintergrazer rye to overseed spring/summer plots in the past, and it worked fairly well, but here seems deer use the clover/trefoil and chickory plots year round.
