Prior to Lincoln Illinois was known by the indians who lived here. A group of indian tribes known as the Illiniwek.

I looked it up and some sources indicate Illiniwek means tribe of superior men.

(Of course the Iroquois tribes from the east who kicked Illini butt on several occasions would likely have disagreed with that interpretation):D

Well, I ain't real sure what Texans are referred to as, but I have always heard that the only thing that comes out of Texas is steers and..................well you know.................

I CAME OUT OF TEXAS.....!!!:D:D;):rolleyes::).......via an Illinois , Mass., Indiana breeding....and a 1977 Ohio snowstorm.....culminating in an allegience to the LAST GREAT STATE ....( which just means you all need to get up here and visit some time!!)
