Kathleen, what units do you hunt?

...Depends what for....and has varied, depending on the time factor, really...( for me, personally, it has had to do with whether a permit was drawn for a certain area..)

-For a moose/bear combo, especially with fishing opportunity...down here on the peninsula-unit 7- is perfect for a hunt like this...(unit 15 over near Soldotna, has nice moose hunting as well ...)-of the 7 sheep hunts I have been on, 6 of them have been here, in unit 7...up above the various drainages near the Andy Simmons mtn...-very tough country...only a hand full of sheep hunters traverse those snow slides, and climb and side-hill around up there-(:rolleyes:it's kind of nuts...)

-done all my black bear hunting down here, on the Kenai...they are all over-and some really nice ones, too!

...Caribou herds can be hard to anticipate, for a hunt of what we are talking about, here, though..

-When I lived up north east of Fairbanks on the Westfork of the Chena...it was unit 20...(and, usually sub-unit B)...that area is excellent for moose- especially because there is no brow-tine restriction in most of unit 20...

-also....Grizzly is open up there-(brown bear on the Kenai, is not....)

-I have been on one sheep hunt in 20D...out of Tok-in '06...

-and have a sheep permit I drew for this year in the Delta controlled use Area...(near Tok, also...)-20D

....I have gotten some opportunities to scout and explore in others...units 13, 11, and around Petersburg, Ketchikan, and Sitka (can't remember the units...between 2 and 5..)... and a little bit, a long time ago, around Central...(on the way to Circle...)-

-but I've only hunted units 7 and 20...

-This state is so incredible...so much to see and do!-

-And each unit, just about, has ample harvest opportunities and over-the-counter tags....even for non-res.....depends on the species, really...the AK Fish and Game website has a lot of interesting info...:D

so are we going to start aug. 20? season openers work for me. also, the later it gets the more folks like ranger can't make it. besides, i'm afraid of the cold...lol

...Yes...I think that would be the right time...-moose opener,Aug. 20th...

-and there will be lots of berries, and bears, and good fishing....

-I like the idea of scouting with the canoes...lots of possibilities, though....and combinations to consider-

It's always such a hassle for us Canucks getting guns across the border, and back again. Maybe I could help scout. :D

Actually, I'm afraid to go to Alaska, because it might consume me and I wouldn't go home .. :D It is one Beautiful place.

....Oh,don't be afraid to come up here,Buckee....this hunt needs you!

-I'll take care of you, myself...-with a great pair of sunglasses you can have that will temper the magnitude of the beautiful Alaskan landscape-

-and I'll wear a shirt with your country's flag on the front...and you can paddle us all downriver as I sing "O, Canada...":)

- Maybe you'll soon tire of Alaska, and yearn to return home....?-:D

I don't know, I guess if you got the shirt and all, I'd have to come, but it might take a bit more than paddling down a river to make me yearn for home too quick. :D I hope you sing good :D

OK ...you talked me into it :D You sing, and I'll buy the shirt :D:D

....HEY-You just made me think of this great idea...-

-Why don't you paint a design of a theme for this Alaskan hunt...I can get it put on a bunch of RT camo t-shirts, for all of us guys and gals to wear, as we skirt our way around the bush...

-Yeah!.....I can just see it now..."Realtree Forum Alaskan Moose Hunt '09 "....with a cool picture that you painted on the front...:D

....The more I think about this, and hear about what sort of ideas people would like to experience...the more I envision this all taking place on the most beautiful spot, and access point for both moose and bear...a fly-in not too far from here, called Upper Paradise Lake...

-Huge moose, excellent fishing, bear nearby, a nice forestry cabin that sleeps eight people...spots for additional tents -areas to explore, both by foot, and by canoe-

-I'll see if I can dig up some pictures....:)

i'm liking this more every day. from bellingham, wa, folks can see the inside passage cheaply on the ferry. get off in haines, and drive to seward. i have a 4 door crew cab that may just be heading that way...

open for passangers.

....that's a great idea, SteveB.!!

-Hope that people will be able to make it up for this thing!

-might want to pencil in a good 3 weeks!
