toddyboman
Here is how this started.... I had a one acre spot marked off to burn. I have participated in several burns so nothing new..... Well this little burn turned into a Nightmare!!! We (buddy and I) started burning around the area like normal no big deal.....UNTIL that huge gust of wind came about:eek: and continued to blow in the WRONG direction......and at that time the flames went rolling across the field.......Literally one second ALL was fine to the next second utter ciaos had broken out.....:( We did finally get it contain and extinguished..... Couple things helped us out.... The fired went towards the woods...When it got into the wood it slowed down so that helped... Of course another big fear came about as the fire entered the woods.......the corn field on the other side of the draw........ But since it slowed down we was able to put it out before it got to the corn field. A farmer on the neighboring property happen to be burning too so he came over to help.....I was able to call my mom for her to recruit some help. (dad had gotten called into work earlier...So he was suppose to be here from the beginning:eek:) Water was a big help:rolleyes:....luckily I did not run out of it. I had a big water tank and hose on the four wheeler. And more importantly to the wind shifted to a more favorable direction and died down. SO we was able to win the WAR. Well now that its all over all is good....No major damage was done...No one got hurt...and the land will actually benefit from it. Here is some aftermath pics of the madness.......The red square was all I had intended to burn. Oh and we still have another BIG field (10 acres of big blue stem) we need to burn off......DAD and others I hope are around for that one:rolleyes:

WHISKEYSWAMP
looks like you missed a spot. I had a small field fire last year and was able to contain it before it spread to much... gets your heart pumping though.
PotashRLS
Oops:eek: You lucked out. Around here, springtime means out-of-control grassfires and the local fire depts and WDNR Fire Rangers are dispatched at the first signs of smoke. You definitely lucked out. You could have had a huge "Big Deal" on your hands. Nice looking burn though. How did you get those aerial photos so quickly??

Well if the Fire Dept would have came it would have been that big of a deal since our fire dues are paid up.....they just would have put fire out and went on about their day. A good friend of mine has his own airplane and takes me flying often to look at deer and what not:cool:.....He was one that came and help to put the fire out.....So of course he thought it would be funny to see the pics from the air. wildthing
I had a similar experience last year. Lit a fire with some gas and the next thing I knew the wind shifted, gusted, and the fire took off across the field. I burnt down 10 acres in minutes! Good luck with future burns.
