New NFL Rules....

  • Referees will no longer call force-outs on catches by receivers. They will be forced to have 2 feet, one knee, etc... in bounds.
  • Similar to the rule on offense, a member of the defense will be allowed to wear a communication device inside the helmet.
  • Field Goals are now reviewable by the instant replay system.
  • Teams can now defer the decision on whether to kickoff or receive until the 2nd half.
  • Elimination of the 5 yard facemask penalty. I didn't see this one coming, but I like it. Facemask penalties will now rightly be called only when there is an attempt to grab, pull, or twist the facemask (the 15-yard variety).

These 2 are a bit odd....:rolleyes::confused:

That force out rule is going to be a big deal. There are alot of games over the last few years that might have turned out differently if it wasn't for that rule.

That might really effect how teams use sideline routes in their passing attacks. And you are going to see guys get seriously jacked up when they go up to make a catch near the lines.

I would agree 100% with this one! Going to be an interesting NFL season with this new rule in play.

Think the force out rule will be interesting. Eliminates any judgement call from a referee.

Also the facemask penalty going to all 15 yards eliminates judgement from referee.

Reviewable field goals once again eliminates judgement from referee.

Anyone seeing a trend here? Might as well just have one referee on the field to spot the ball and the rest in a booth watching film. Pretty pathetic in my opinion

Don't know if they'll get more jacked up or not. They got jacked up before because as a defender all you could do was try to hit him hard enough too fumble or attempt to strip the ball. If he held on it was a catch because he was forced out. Now when he goes up for the ball on the sideline or in corner of the end zone you can simply take one hand and push him out of bounds before he comes down. They just made the field smaller by making the sidelines a lot easier to defend IMO.

yeah, not sure that's a good one....seems like this didn't need to be changed.

How about: let's get rid of extra points and making them go for 2 points ;)

no judgement for the refs is a good thing...now you get all the call right and theres no question who should have won the game

I got mixed emotions on the force out rule. When a guy is in the air it's all too easy to deliberatly force him out of bounds, but there were some bad calls this year in that category as well.

Take care,

Nathan
