Guest Finn
what's a good rod and reel combo to get for bluegills, walleyes and crappies? I haven't fished in years, and would like a decent set-up to get started. Thanks
Guest Andrea
Stay away from Zebco. Shimano reels and Abu Garcia's are good. I have a couple of Shakespears that are decent. Ambassador reels are good too. If all you're gonna do is fish for bluegill you can get an extendable ( what I call) Bream Buster pole. You fish it like a cane pole. No reel needed. Great for fishing with a bobber. But if you wanna cast into deeper water and fish on the bottom you will need a different set up.

Gator
Craig, couple of years ago I bought two Mitchell Avocet rod/reel combos, both with 7' rods. I love the heck out of them.
RangerClay
Go to Gander Mountain or Walmart and get an combo that feels comfortable to you. A 6 and a half foot, med./light weight rod with 6 or 8 pound test line would do the trick. I was going to suggest a shorter rod but you are also fishing for walleyes. DU_man_84
panfish and walleye i would recommend 2 different setups, but if you want a setup for these three species i would recommend a 6'0 ML rod, good rod you can get at like wal-mart for 30 bucks would be a berkley lighting rod, i would suggest a light but if your gonna be catching walleyes on the same rod you should go ML, i would match it up with a garcia 300 series reel, dependable and affordable, match it off with some either 6/8 lb mono, for panfish you would only need 4lb but if catching walleye too your gonna want that 8lb, this is a decent set up for like 70 bucks, but if ya got the money i would recommend two different set ups

I prefer ultra light stuff for pan fish using 2 lb. mono. For eyes I step up to medium action using 6lb test.

Randy
All you need is a sensitive 6' 6" med light graphite rod and I prefer Pflueger reels with 6# test line. I think we can fill your freezer in a couple days this spring with that set-up.....
flyrod64
Just for fun fishing, in my opinion you can't beat a good ole zebco 33 combo. It's not expensive and is very reliable!

bluelund79
If you are looking for a nice starter combo for the above named fish...Go to Gander Mtn and get one of their combos-lifetime warranty. I have quite a few of them, and about 70% of my rods have their reels an them as well. You could err on the light side and get a 6' light action paired with 6lb test. Or you could go with a 6' or 6' 6" MedLt actiona with 6lb. Set the drag right, and you can land most anything in WI...I have caught alot of Northerns and even a couple of muskies fishing for walleyes with Lt action rods and 4 or 6lb test.
