huntn4bucks
Sure do....or at least I use to. I keep the tail and wing feathers now and give them away to kids when I sell calls at turkey shows.

Adjam5
What I did was spread out the tail fan removing as much as the fat around the tail as you can. Then used 6 penny finishing nails to keep the tail spread out on a board and I kept changing the salt on the tail to dry it out. Then I took a round section of wood. In these cases I used Cherry for good grain. I cut the round in half, cut the middle out with a sawzall ( like making a napkin holder) stained it all . When the tail was dried out, I placed the tail fan in the hollow area and glued it to the bottom with hot melt. The depth you may want to work as to cover the little feathers in the holder. Before hand I took a 3/8" bit and drilled a small hole on the bottom about 1/2" deep to set and glue the beard. Fastend a picture hanger on the back and wallaa! If you would like to go a bit farther. I took the shell I used and stuck and glued the leg with spur in the shell and glued that also to the turkey tail mount. The finished products. One is in my hobby room and the other is the wall at our hunting camp. Buy a turkey tail mount. See how they made it. Duplicate it and bring it back! That is how I got the shapes and ideas for the antler/turkey plaques that I make:D.
HUNTINGMAN
Yes,have done a number of them for myself and other people. After cleaning off the meat and fat from the tail feathers and putting a nail to hold the fan open I use borax to put on it,this was recomended by my taxedermist. Then after drying you can cut a peice of wood for a plaque and mount spurs, beard shells or whatever to it. Hardwood_HD
yep i do mine myself.. really easy and a lot cheaper than having it done
98chevy
I have done for every one I have shot. Some are o plaques others just in the shop. When i hunt pastures I carry one in my vest and if a lone gobller is off by himself I like to use it as a decoy bye flashing it for a little while. He has to be 150 200 yards though
slughunter
I have done my bigger ones but I am running out of wall space and they all kinda look the same so I dont do it as much. Deffenetly easy and fun to do though. -shane
Bowtech_archer07
Working on one now. My dad and I are trying to get the bird that I shot last year mounted. It's a work in progress. He was my first longbeard, had an 11 3/4" beard and 1 1/8" and 1 1/16" spurs. I'll post a pic when it's done.
JimT
I have done a few of mine. They got better as I did more. Easy, cheap, and fun to do. Just running out of wall space now. The next one I do I will probably use a panel with several hangers for my future birds beards and call it.
elnor
Do my own, too. As others have said, I'm getting to the point where I don't have room for them all anymore, so I've started keeping the tail feathers for projects to do with my daughter (example: feather wreath idea from NWTF). I've done "standard" fan mounts, and I've also done a cape:
Deb
Yep, I do mine. ( my one, so far:rolleyes:)
wyohunter
actually its simple, flesh it well, if you buy a mounting kit it will come with some borax and the board, rub the borax on the fleshed skin, fan out the tail, put the beard in place, nail the backing board on, hang it on the wall, use thumb tacks to keep the fan spread out till fully dried
