Typically you will see people sitting in town selling them out of the back of a truck or something.... Still nothing. Low and behold my beautiful, wonderful, special wife totes home a large bundle last night! Tonight for Dinner... Scrambled eggs and wild onions! That smell has been in the air around here for the past couple weeks now. Mowed quite a few of them when I mowed my yard for the first time this season Sunday afternoon. I typically get them very small. Im sure they grow but arent near as large as a garden variety. I like mine roughly 6-8" long. The bulb will be very small and really tender. aksheephuntress Posted April 9, 2008 Report Share Posted April 9, 2008 ....Oh, yes....Poke, and wild onion...and I used to just about graze on red clover...don't know why I loved it so much(well, maybe it's because my horse liked it)... -We gather seaweed at certain times, and places, and eat it...(only allowed a certain amount...) -Now that wild garlic...I'm envious of that!.. I've never eaten one, but they smell pretty strong. ...Yes, that was the word I was trying to think of...Scallion...I think you're right- that is what it is technically closer to ... -Just think:-A HUGE salad right now with all of these things growing and being found , right now... -Poke, wild onion and garlic, fresh horse radish, red clover,...leeks...add a touch of kale,and some radish...topped with some sliced fried -up morels....oh, boy!
