Guest Andrea
Very sad that this happened but I'm still not clear on HOW this happened. Click on the link and look at the picture. From the angle of the wood chipper....it seems like it would be hard to "fall" into. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,348990,00.html

johnf
If he had a branch in his hands it may have grabbed the branch and pulled him in with it. At least it was probably very quick.
RangerClay
Oh Andrea you wouldn't believe how easy it is to get sucked in. I worked with a tree chipper for two summers (I'm missing 30% of my hearing thanks to that machine). He probably did not "fall in". You have to understand how this thing works. It is meant to pull in the branch as it chops. If you stick your hand in the cutters it will pull all of you in the chipper unless your arm rips off. You need to see one of these chippers in action. I can toss a 20 foot maple branch, 5-7" in dia, and it will be chips in LESS than 5 seconds. If you toss a limb with lots of smaller branches, they can hook you and pull you in. You learn to toss and duck quickly or get whipped by branches.
Guest Andrea
Yeah I can understand getting sucked in, but they make you think he fell in. What a horrible way to die. Why would you park that under the tree you were climbing in anyway??? And not wear a safety strap??? OSHA will be all over this I'm sure. ( If it's a big company)

OJR
He probably fell out of the bucket onto a limb that was going into the shredder! If he was stunned, he would never have a chance! Sad accident!
