A good friend dies.............

My Jeep Cherokee passed away Thursday nite on the way to the sportsmen's club. Blew a head gasket. :(

177,00 miles and change. It was just getting good and broke-in. Still wasn't using oil, made 22 mpg everyday and would climb a tree in 4WD.

Now I'm left with Mama's Grand Cherokee Limited. Ain't no way I can use that vehicle like I used my Cherokee. I might as well apply for a "handicapped" sticker. :(

All that amounts to is a bloody nose! Get a new gasket and it will be right back on the road! LOL!!

Well........you're probably right. But...........the Jeep's been through the wringer with me. It's in need of a radiator, exhaust, floorboards, rear springs and it's still running the original clutch. My thoughts are that I'm a fool if I put any major repair on it because tomorrow it could need the next one and the next one after that. Book value on it is roughly 75 cents. Kinda like throwing good money after bad.

sounds like you just got it where she's broke in......a head gasket on a straight 6 is cheap and easy, more work on a v-8 but still cheap.....worse comes to worse, she'd stil llove to take you hunting :D

unless of course your using this as an excuse to replace her

I really don't have the facility to do the job myself. I may ask around to see what kind of figures the locals will give me. What I'm afraid of is that I'm gonna have bearing trouble with all the water being in the oil. I didn't have to run it more than about 5-6 miles to get it home. But I'm still leary.

Yep. Still got to the sportsmen's club. But my dad had to drive from his place. If the Jeep's truly dead........at least it died doing what it loved best.............goin' huntin' (almost). :o

My dad had a '51 Willy's wagon when I was a kid. Loved that old truck.

...Yeah, they have a lot of room...and the snorkel exhaust pipe on top made it easier to drive up certain streams, if need be-

-converted mine over to a 12-volt system...

-yeah, real work horses...and I guess quite a few came up the Alcan in the '50's and '60's-

-glad you made it to the Sportsman's show!

sounds like a pretty good old dog. bury it, and go get a new puppy.... stay with a 6 cyl. puppy.

I had originally intended to sell both Jeeps and go get an '04 grand Cherokee with low mileage. 2004 is the last year for the 4.0L straight 6 and also the manual transfer case..............both of which are a must for the way I use a Jeep. Now I may just be stuck with my wife's "yuppie Jeep". :( Don't know how I'm gonna function with that thing.
