[email protected]
I am thinking about starting to build my own arrows for 3d and hunting. In the back of my mind I will offer my services to friends and relatives also. In your opinion what do I need to start this venture, approximate cost and where is the best place to get the items I will need. Your opinion is appreciated and thanks. Squirrelhunter91
Well.. here's one thing that is certain.. It may seem like you'll be laying out alot of money in the beginning for vanes, a jig, clamps, glue, arrow saw, arrow shafts, etc.. But it really doesn't start to pay off until after your 2nd or 3rd dozen built. You'll see how much you start saving though by doing it yourself. wtnhunt
Usually buy my arrow building supplies from cabelas, they always have what I need. Would go with a quality jig, bitz are the best in my opinion. Think the next thing I will buy for arrow building here will be a saw.
Adjam5
Get good stuff and it will last you a lifetime. Fletching is like therapy for me:D Good Luck and Welcome to the boards!
Tom2008
Don't forget about cutting your shafts to the right lengths. If you don't plan on taking them to a local shop to get cut you will need a arrow cutting saw. The Bitzenburger fletching jig is probably the best one out there. I would suggest buying all 3 clamps for the jig. There is a right helical, left helical, and straight fletch. Lancaster Archery has everything that you can think of for fletching. I would suggest using Goat Tuff arrow glue also. It is expensive, but it gets the job done. Don't forget about getting a Zip strip fletching remover. Andy That can be very subjective; and up to your personal preferences. I've used feathers from Cabelas, but I prefer the feathers from 3 Rivers. I've bought raw shafts from 3 Rivers; but have been getting them from Kustom King lately...It will also depend on where you get the best prices too.
