SuperMn106
I am fairly new to turkey hunting. While I was out scouting, which consisted of driving around public land at about 1-3 pm. I have seen a lot of birds but all of them have been hens. My question is, will the toms be with the hens? or should I keep driving around and looking for the toms. The public area that i am scouting is a lot of fields with some patch of woods. Thanks for any help.
Strut10
This time of year, where there are hens.........there will be toms. It's possible that the toms had wandered away from the hens for a spell at that time of day. But you can bet your bottom dollar the boys won't be too far from the girls come first light tomorrow morning.

My season does not start untill the 21st, So i am trying to keep up with birds and I assume they might not be in the same area that they are in right now. slughunter
Strut10 has it on the money. From what I have seen in the afternoon the gobblers will break away from the hens a little but not much. But in the morning they are right on the hens tails. If you can go where the hens are or you can get the hens to come to you, you are all set. -shane
toddyboman
I agree with the above....the boys are near those hens ;):D Go out in the early mornings and listen for some gobbles....
SuperMn106
Thanks for the help guys! Another question, I am planning on tryin to take my first bird with my bow. Where is the best place to aim? would it be in the middle of the body? or just down from the neck? Thanks
Bowtech_archer07
Depends on how good of a shot you are LOL. The body shot is your best bet unless you are using gobbler guillotines which are expandable broadheads that literally take the head off of a turkey.. Here are some shot charts for archery hunting... Hope these help!!

Bowtech_archer07
Here is a website that shows the guillotine in action.. video is very graphic!! http://www.vidilife.com/video_play_903392_Gobbler_Guillotine.htm
wildside
Here is a website that shows the guillotine in action.. video is very graphic!! Holy cow! My brother-in-law recommended that we try the guillotines, so we bought some (both my husband and I are planning to hunt turkey with our bows this spring for the first time instead of our usual shotguns). That video sure tells it like it is. . . . What broadhead do you use, Bowtech_archer 07? The pictures you posted of the kill zones are helpful. I've heard that it's more tricky to get a good placement on a strutting bird. True? Good luck to you, SuperMn106, and have a great hunt! There's really something special about springtime in the woods - especially when you've scouted and are right where you want to be at day's first light. Hearing the gobble of a tom and successfully calling him in for the shot is a really cool experience. Enjoy! Laura
Guest ekudeerhunter
I got the guillotines, and tried em out this past weekend...was not satisfied at all... blades break wayyyyy to easily and the slightest amount of wind will throw the bad boys off FAST! I think they should make some practice blades that are a little more durable. I'm still goin to give 'em a try. Good luck
Bowtech_archer07
Wildside, I mainly turkey hunt with a bow during deer season. Our fall archery turkey season runs concurrent with our deer season so I buy a $5 permit and if one gives me a shot, I take it. A couple of years ago my buddy and I were seeing a bunch of turkeys while deer hunting, and as neither of us were having much luck deer hunting, we decided to switch over to turkey hunting. I was just using my Muzzy 100 gr. fixed blades. We both took 1 shot, both missed. But we saw a lot of birds and had a great time.
