JimT
Hi everyone, I just picked up my first boat. I have trolled for browns alot, but with not much success. Just wondering what everyone likes to use for lures and such. I am all set with salmon, but not sure where to start really with browns. Still have a good 1-2 weeks before ice out, and want to get ready now... Thanks,,, Jim
muggs
Wish I could help but I've never trolled for anything other than walleye. That said, whatever technique you'd use for salmon will probably work with similar baits- I'd just scale them down a lot. Smaller spoons would probably be best. fly
I've never trolled either. I've only caught a handfull of small browns (9-12 inches), and the were all on small copper john wet flies.
coles
i have trolled for trout before, not specifically browns but for trout. we have caught them on small gold and black rapalas, rainbow, and perch colors also work. just match the size according to the size of fish you want to catch but dont forget a big fish will still eat a small bait. Guest bowhunter56
I use to do alot of trolling for trout, i would use a 3 way swivel, one line attached to a diving or semi deep running lure, then the line coming straight back either a mepps, or rooster tail spinner, in various colors, i always liked white..99% of the time they would hit the spinner, but once in a while the lure,,,i didn't use a big lure, just something small to get the spinner down a few feet..worked great.. ruttinbuc
I have caught brown trout trolling spoons of different types. Luhr Jensen Crocodiles and Acme Cleos as well as Mepp's Syclops in various colors. Size and color depends on baitfish the fish are feeding on.
