Working with a kid on their form

OK, got my oldest daughter(12) her own bow. I have it setup for her down to about the minimum draw weight for her to start out and she is not having any troubles at all with drawing it. She is doing ok with shooting, but we are having some issues with her form. Trying to teach her to anchor consistently, but seems that is where our problems are at right now, that and her stance is really awkward, but one thing at a time I guess or is it better to try to correct everything from the get go?

When she shoots with her release tight to her cheek, she is hitting the target every time, problem is unless I stand on her right side and remind her every time she shoots, she will let the string drift out from her face and when she does her arrows go off in the field and miss the target, and I do not want frustration to become a factor. Considered putting a kisser button on the string for her. I do not have a peep for it yet either, will have to pick one up, sure that will help some.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Peep........Will make a major difference. Start her off with 1 pin in her site and make it a big fat pin like a .39...........Make sure the spot she is aiming at is large. You can move to a smaller spot later.

I like what he said! But the kisser would probably help too! All good info, because I will be in the same boat soon!

Thanks for all the replies. I do have one pin on the site, that was actually all I had on the site that I had in my archery box, and she is only shooting for about 20 minutes or so right now. Figure I can upgrade her to a better site and add pins later on. Think I will pick up a peep and a kisser button next time I get over to the closest shop, have to get her some more arrows anyway.

How about shock therapy? (jk):D

What your daughter needs is some cognitive behavioral therapy.:) Just have her practice her form without the equipment - "air archery" I call it. House cats make great targets for this activity too. I would also let the student find those errant arrows in the field - good negative reinforcement.

Good luck!
