MUDRUNNER
EARTHQUAKE?!:eek:It was a first for me.It woke the wife and I up at about 4:40 this morning. The news said it was a 5.4 and it was felt from Indianappolis to Chicago and the Quad cities.Talk about a weird feeling.:eek:It knocked a few things off the wall, but that was about it for us.I can't believe the kids slept through it. Anybody else feel the quake?

Tominator
I heard a loud pop last night after I took my medicine, shrugged it off as the house settling, or temperature change, but it was the same time as the quake.
Guest SRAII
oh yeah.....it woke me up. Strut10
t....that ain't supposed to happen in the Midwest Ummmmmmm......................better read up on your New Madrid Seismic Zone history. Back in the early 1800's there were 4 quakes magnitude 7.0 or greater within a 3 month period in the midwest. There's a very good chance that the 5.4 from this morning has a "big brother" following in the not-so-distant future.

bozz
Yup, there I was sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee, then I heard my 3 yr. old house make a traveling, creaking sound wave. And for the life of me I could not process what I just heard and blew it off as a freak gust of wind or some animal running on my roof, problem was there was no wind and animals don't run on my roof. We are near a small airport but did not hear a plane. Dang it was so funky sounding like a traveling sonic sound wave moving in walls. wtnhunt
Was still in bed here, woke up right about that time though. Heard it was felt as far as 350 miles from the center, so guess it could have been felt here, but afraid it was right before I woke up. The new madrid fault line is pretty close to us and we have felt a few before, however the radio said this quake was not on the new madrid fault line, so possible it may not have been felt around here. Strut10
......... however the radio said this quake was not on the new madrid fault line West Salem, Illinois is not situated proper within the accepted boundaries of the NMSZ. But it is only a hop, skip & jump northeast of there. The West Salem area is still associated with the same rift that forms the NMSZ and is no stranger to seismic activity. Yep, imagine had we been awake when it happened we might have felt it here. Some pretty interesting information here http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://archives.zinester.com/13183/107467/161646_Charleston1895.JPG&imgrefurl=http://archives.zinester.com/13183/107467.html&h=81&w=126&sz=50&tbnid=lW4GTsw9F20J:&tbnh=81&tbnw=126&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dnew%2Bmadrid%2Bfault%2Bline&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=1&ct=image&cd=1, click on new madrid seismic zone and it gives information on this morning's quake. Washi
It took me a while to figure out what it was and even then I kept doubting it. So I just made sure to remember what time it was. Not long after on the local morning news they told about the earthquake and what time it happened. "I was right!", was the first thing I thought. Crazy stuff.
