hunter336
Man it was a beautiful morning. I got out to the spot I was hunting at about 0530. I eased down a sewer pipeline that comes to a "T" intersection. I stood about 30 yards from the "T" to listen if I could hear anything gobbling on the roost. At 0600 I moved 30 yards into the intersection and a gobbler sounded off about 75 yards from me down the pipeline to my left. I eased back and set up against a tree on the off side of the "T" intersection. I started some light calling and the gobbler went crazy. He started gobbling 5-6 times in a row. As soon as he started then 5 other gobblers started sounding off all around me within 200 yards. At 0609 the gobbler that was 75 yards from me flew down into the pipeline and started strutting. I started some soft yelping and he kept spitting and drumming and strutting back and forth in front of me. I started cutting and he went crazy, cutting me off every time I called. As this was going on the other 5 gobblers were gobbling their heads off. At 0620 three hens started yelping and cutting down the pipeline about 100 yards from me. I started trying to out do them in hopes to get the gobbler to move closer. The gobbler would not budge. He continued to strut back and forth at 75 yards. At 0659 I saw the gobbler start looking toward my left. I had a little pine tree right next to me where I was sitting on my left so I turned my head to see what the gobbler was looking at. As soon as I turned my head I saw a gobbler ease out of a cedar and pine thicket to my left at 30 yards. He never strutted, gobbled, or saw the Mossberg pointed in his direction. One squeeze of the trigger and the 3.5" #6's (Winchester Xtended Range) were on their way. Once I got up to him the first thing I noticed were his giant hooks. As soon I picked him up I knew he was a stud. He weighed 22 lbs. with a 11 inch beard, 1 1/4" & 1" spurs. He is only the third gobbler I have ever taken, but he is by far my biggest. This was a great ending to a beautiful morning and a great hunt. As soon as I can get the pictures shrunk down I will post them.
