JimT
Anyone see how happy Dan looked in the post game show when Boomer said Manning is the Marino of this generation. He said all the numbers but he never got it done. Man, did Marino look mad about that. Too funny. But kinda true.

[/ QUOTE ] Scotty--that is exactly what everyone was saying about Marino after he lead the dolphins to the superbowl his 2nd year but got beat by the best post season quarterback of my generation--Montana! He never made it back! todd
Guest Finn
Re: Marino Sad to say, but pretty true. I think Manning has alot better team around him the Marino had. I liked watching Marino play more than Manning. Maybe I didn't notice it, but he didn't seem to have all the hype there is around stars today. James7xChamp3
Re: Marino Marino is the best passing QB of all time IMO. If they had the contact rules back then that they have now who know how many TD's he'd have thrown in a season. But he also said stats are just stats and it takes a team to win championships. The Dolphins just didn't have the whole package sorta like the Colts. When the passing game is down there is no one stepping up to fill the void. James7xChamp3
Re: Marino One other thing. Although I truly believe Dan is the best passing QB of all time, I think Montans was the best overall. Very cool and could win the big games. I won't rank Brady at that level just yet, but he is very close. He's cool in pressure situations and really comes thru in the big games. Manning seems to get rattled when things aren't going good. Always seems to be shaking his head. But he is the best passing QB right now IMO.
ruttinbuc
Re: Marino The whole Colts team looked like they had question marks in their eyes before Sunday's start. Sort of like whitetails on a windy day. Not quite sure of themselves. Marino was a great quarterback for his time. Esiason was out of line with the comment and Dan's glare let him know it! He's going to the hall or is he in it? Manning will go even if he doesn't win the big one. Terry Bradshaw is in the Hall of Fame because of his numbers? Not hardly. He played with winners. Manning's time will come if he stays healthy and can overcome mental game with the Patriots.

Tominator
Re: Marino Yeah, that was a super slam on Dan eh? What the heck was Boomer thinking? I don't think he meant it the way it came out. He kind of backpedaled when Dan said "I got there, I got there, we just didn't win it." wtnhunt
Re: Marino Have been comparing Manning to Marino since he started in the NFL, and think there are probably posts in here in the past where I compared them. Think Manning has all the talent, but lacks the composure to really be in the class with the superbowl greats like Montana. Think Brady reminds me in that respect a lot of Montana. Did see the post game part you mentioned, and agree Marino did seem to be a little bothered, of course I think Marino picked Manning and the colts to win the game too if I am not mistaken. WHISKEYSWAMP
Re: Marino In an interview a few weeks ago, Manning said Marino was his idol growing up... Maybe it's his destiny not to win the Super Bowl. Nobody will ever be as good as McMahon..
