sureshot
anyone try the barnes new varmet grenades yet on coyotes? I bought a box of bullets and got a load and reloaded a few yesterday, they sure fly, they are 36 grain I believe .22 cal, they explode on gophers, look like you skinned the gopher, scares me what they will do on coyotes, they say they will penetrate before exploding but it really scares me seeing how easy they explode on gophers, I know i had soem v-max I loaded near max a few years back and they would explode before penetrating the shoulder or a frontal shot, they just peeled the hide away from the skin and did not kill them, just lookign for any info on them , thanks
Strut10
Haven't tried 'em yet. A buddy is in the process of getting a Barnes dealership. Can't wait to see how they work. I figure I oughta be able to get 4600-4800 fps out of them in the Swift.
sureshot
+I have not crony'ed them yet on the .223 but the chart says 3800 fps with the 36 gr 22 cal, I figure they should be at least 36oo fps, just amazing at how they blow up a gopher it does not come out, it seems to explode and peel the hide back, really scares me on a coyote, I sent a e-mail to them today asking any info, I need to reload 1500 or so thsi summer hate reloading during the season . Strut10
There's a video somewhere (YouTube?) that shows them blowing up on grapes & cherry tomatoes!!
WaCoyote
I used to use the 40 grn Barnes VLX bullet on yotes from my 22-250 and loved it. It was a similar bullet but it had that blue coating. Super accurate and no exits. They claim via e-mail that the V-Grenade will perform similarly. I too worry about shoulder splashes but only time will tell on that I suppose. Let us know how they do, I've got some old Varminators (same as VLC without the blue) I need to shoot up before I try the grenade but I'm thinking about trying them sometime. sureshot
just got a e-mail back from barnes telling me he has a buddy whoshot near 200 coyotes so far with them and only 12 exits, with the odd pin holes from debree flying out, he did not ask mention abotu the blowing up before entering that I am worried about, he did say his buddy will never shoot anything else!i guess time will tell, just wish it was not breeding season and I could try one out lol!!,only 6 months or so to wait lol!! Tominator
There's a video somewhere (YouTube?) that shows them blowing up on grapes & cherry tomatoes!! I saw that video, and according to them the bullet won't do to a yote what it does to smaller game like gophers. The physics behind it was pretty interesting. I have a 22-250 and loaded some 40's they where moving 4200-4300 and about 1 out of 4 would fragment before impact.

A jacketed, lead-core bullet can and will vaporize at extreme velocities. I've "blue puffed" Speer 110 grainers out of my .300 Win Mags. It's really quite interesting to see. But the Barnes Varmint Grenades are a homogenous bullet made of a compressed, sintered metal powder. No jackets to separate. They'll hold together as fast as you can run 'em........until they hit something.

Strut10
Heck lets see how fast they will go then. I fully intend to. I'd wager a large sum that my chrono's never registered numbers anywheres near what it's gonna with the Grenades.
sureshot
lol, a guy i know from 60 miles north said he did some up with reloader 7 I believe for a .222 and registered 3650 out of a 22" barrel,I am expecting 3800 out of my 24 inch .223, all I know is a plastic pop bottle at 300 yards gets hit and only drops about 5 inches and is instant, what a difference from the 3000 I was shooting with the 50 gr lol!
