Jeramie
What the..... ?!?! I've never seen anything like that! Weird looking fish.. We call them Spoonbill but they are actually a paddle fish. They dont have a bone in their body. On average I would say they run around 35lbs (males) and females can break over 100lbs. You dont bait fish for them. You have to "Snag" which means ripping a 4-5oz weight and a large trebble hook through the water until you hang into one. Its actually not that hard to do during the spawn. They are a lot of fun....
Jeramie
Hey HG, what dam are you guys at? I know they should be moving up from Ft. Gibson to my neck of the woods soon. However, the insane water amounts will keep me off the banks for a while.

Jeramie
Do you catch and release ? They look like fun to catch It varies from year to year. Last year they changed the regs to allow it again. You have to flatten the barbs on all of your hooks. If the damage to the fish is bad you have to keep it.

Jeramie
People here eat them. I think the meat is a lot like catfish from what I've heard. Its good as long as you cut the yellow off of the bottom of the steaks. We have had them at the get togthers pretty much every year. They can be very good to eat.
