muggs
As some of you already know, I just put in a ceramic tile floor in my kitchen and the 1/2 bath that's off of the kitchen area. I did it right and took the toilet out so I could lay the tile up to the flange. I have a problem, but I don't think it's major. With the combination of the backerboard and tile, the floor came up about an inch (slightly under) so I don't think the flange will line up properly and seal if I only use one wax ring. I've been told that I can use two wax rings stacked on top of each other. Anyone know if this is true, or has anyone done this with good results? It makes sense, but I'd hate to do it and have a leak and I'm really not crazy about reworking the plumbing to extend the flange.
MCH
Man, muggsy! You keep these home improvement projects going, you could end up with your own show on Bravo channel.
okiedog
Yes you can do it. Install the ring with a rubber flange on the bottom and put the reg plain wax ring on the top.
muggs
could end up with your own show on Bravo channel. It would be great if they could program it to air right after Project Runway, that way, you wouldn't even have to change the channel to watch my show!:D

I saw those at Home Depot. That would make sense.
hutchies
Yep, Depending on the depth you maybe able to get away with a thicker wax ring.

drkillemquick
You can also buy a flange expander if your pipes are pvc or abs. If not you can buy extra thick wax ring just for this purpose. Have also used two wax rings in the past, so far no problems!

MCH
I'm betting you can name all the winners from past seasons DB. I'm laughing...but I'm being honest as well. I've honestly never seen Project Runway. Which probably means my wife hasn't either. Hey, check your TIVO and see when the next episode is airing and maybe I'll get a glance at it. Not sure how exciting airplanes taking off can be, but we'll see.

I've never seen it either, but I'm aware of the world around me so I know that it exists and I can make an educated guess about its content. That's why I knew you'd be a fan. Anyway, I don't have TIVO, just basic cable. Not much for TV, we watch a lot of DVD's. Lost was about the only show I'd watch on a weekly basis but that show lost me. wtnhunt
Yep, Depending on the depth you maybe able to get away with a thicker wax ring. That was what I was going to say too Eric. Sometimes you can get away with a thicker wax ring, don't know if home depot carries them or not, but a local plumbing store should carry them. Have also used two wax rings in the past, so far no problems! That is exactly right. I had to reset a stool not more than a month or so ago due to lack of seal. They MFG a "Jumbo" wax ring that is the same thickness as two rings. I think it was a dollar more and worked great.
muggs
Fashion show??? Now that sounds like Muggsy's cup of tea.:D.. Oh no...look out for Mr. Macho here. When Kev swims, the seas froath with testosterone. Just because I can actually admit I've heard of the show doesn't mean it's my cup of tea- just means I'm man enough to admit I've heard of it without blaming it on my wife or playing dumb like you two ladies. Froath?? You need to stop watching that Bravo channel. They're teaching you a lot of fruity words.
jcwa
I wouldn't use two wax rings, your asking for a leak. You need a toilet flange extender. There easy to install.

So, in order to live by your obvious standards of masculinity, I have to not only lie about things and limit my awareness to my surroundings...but now I also have to limit my vocabulary? I think you're confusing masculinity with stupidity Kev.
