BigCheeky
I am looking to purchase a bow for my son who is almost 8 years old. I went to Bass Pro the other day and had his draw length measured and his draw weight. The guy at BP reccomended a bow from Diamond (a Bow Tech company) that has a limb exchange program. As the child grows and becomes stronger you can call the company and they send you out a whole new set of cables, strings, and limbs for a higher draw weight. It goes all the way from 10-20 lbs up to 40-50 lbs. You pay them $40 and you get all that stuff delivered directly to Bass Pro and they put it all together for you. Not sure how much BP charges to put everything on but it sounded like a pretty good deal to me. Now the only down side is that the upfront price is $299 for everything except arrows and a release. I know there are other youth bows on the market for much less but they don't have the let off and the scaleability of this bow. Has anyone heard of this program and can possibly give me any other advice on a good bow for my son? Thanks!
hutchies
Might want to double check that. I believe they only send new limbs......not string, cables, and such.
wtnhunt
We looked at the diamond edge and the parker think it was called buckshot bows at bass pro for my oldest daughter. The idea of sending it off to upgrade the limbs has ups and downs though in my opinion. We have 3 kids, and my thoughts were if I was to buy one of those grow up package bows for one kid and I upgraded it and she got away from archery I would have to send it off again to have it upgraded or I guess downgraded for the next kid. More money each time upgrading or downgrading, my understanding they keep the limbs when they make the changes for you. I ended up going a different route on a suggestion from Randy here at these forums. Did quite a bit of checking and decided on the Darton Ranger III, which comes with everything you need to adjust the bow from a 15 lb draw on up to 45 lb draw draw length is adjustable from 17-28 inches and the bow is good enough for a kid or a woman to hunt with. Only problem with that bow I found is that there are no dealers around here, so I had to buy a bow online and set it up myself. Found the bow at an ebay store new from an archery dealer for $239 plus $10 for shipping. That is a bare bow, which I had an old site, rest, a new string loop and some old arrows to get her started out with. Was really not that big a deal to set it all up for her. She is using my wife's release for now, a release does not come with any of the packages that I am aware of. Just my opinion, but the darton ranger III is defnitely worth checking into. Here is a link http://www.dartonarchery.com/rangerIII.htm.
